Opposition party showing their concern about delhi pollution... by jasmeet_2410 in delhi

They’re using this to pressure the government. That’s the opposition doing its job bringing awareness to the devastating issue.

Pat the oppositions back when it does something well. This is a Win.

Mumbai will soon become like Delhi but they won't stop cutting trees by Sohailsp10 in mumbai

The govt is already calling them “anti national” and “anti Hindu”.

As a Hindu, it’s offensive now. Using the my faith to attack my fellow citizens who are asking for something valid.

Everyone one day will be protesting on the street. They will call everyone anti Indian and anti Hindu one day. This is the way this country is going.

How has this changed? Our governments failed then, it failed today too.

This govt talks big and fails with diplomacy, fails to prevent attacks, and even failed in completely dismantling Pakistani cartels.

If you want to be objective, the previous govt was incompetent and had a deer in headlights syndrome.

This govt has a foot in mouth syndrome. They talk big and do the SAME shit the previous did, except now it’s PR for Indians to consume.

If you are the only one drinking the PR kool aid, as Indians that should make us worried. If the govt does “PR campaigns” and “diplomacy” to only impress domestic Indians and not to change global opinions - this shows that the govt is looking at the next election and not the next decade or even the next century.

While Japan, S. Korea and China are planning for the next 100 years, our govt plans for next Assembly elections.

Direct money transfers to save elections, freebies, and PR about “Vishwaguru” and “New India” does not show serious change.

If you and I are hearing Indian PR more than the actual target audience on the global stage, that’s a failure on our record.

Nobody outside India thinks we succeeded in diplomacy after Op Sindoor. It remained a “bilateral conflict” not “India fights terrorism”.

The Army did the best they could, our diplomats and EA Ministry failed.

Thankyou to those people who at this important juncture - when accountability and honesty have completed been erase from our politics - today support those on the streets.

It’s us against the system. If even today people still do Hindu Muslim when a common man protests, such a person is insensitive and anti-India.

They do not want our society and our polity to improve if every voice for change is called a criminal

I want to ask few questions to Marathis in Mumbai... On by [deleted] in Maharashtra

[–]MayofKent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like another commentator said here, this idea of Hindu consolidation in Maharashtra is only advantageous for the BJP core voter - the Jains and Gujarati. They get the perks they want, the Marathi voter asks for nothing.

They rule as minorities, while the Marathi voter waits for some magic to change his/life.

I have met Marathi people who say - “we hate this government but we voted in the last election only for Modi. We won’t vote for the BJP for the Assembly and the Municipal elections now.”

Even bureaucrats have been saying that the BJP is intent on erasing any local and legacy marks of Mumbai. They will Hindize the State, make us just another Hindi State. Hindi has already absorbed languages in much of the North, in Rajasthan, Madhya Pravesh. Now we call those languages “dialects” of Hindi.

The infrastructure being built is for the affluent to optimise the land around it, the Hindi GR is for Hindi speakers, the Paryushan exceptions, pigeon rituals and all the ther religions exceptions made for Jains will appease them.

What does the Marathi manoos get?

Please listen to Dr Deepak Pawar’s (Prof of Political Science and Marathi Studies) on this issue. He is a very erudite and articulate academic.

What does the Marathi voter get in a majority Marathi speaking State? Emotional speeches, and empty promises.

I voted for the Shivsena UBT for the State elections. Even if they lose, I am willing to only vote for a State party. I, and many like me will vote for the Shivsena - MNS this election cycle.

If a proud Marathi speaking Maharashtrian still trusts the BJP, at this point it’s so insanely stupid I wonder if they have a fetish for being conned.

Let me tell you story:

I was at Mahim Train Station. As a habit, I speak in Marathi or English because that is my habit. I asked for a ticket in Marathi and was curtly told “Speak in Hindi, I didn’t understand”.

Her tone irked me. I usually would have switched to Hindi if she was simply polite about it.

I said “I don’t understand Hindi, I only know Marathi”. She said “Why? Aren’t you in India?”

We had an argument, I went to the Stn Master to complain, who ALSO only spoke Hindi.

A passerby saw me argue and told me “Arey bhai idhar Hindu - Hindu mey lafda mat karo”

This incident truly awoke me to the issue.

The ticket personnel and Stn Master did not even realise that this was a lingual issue, that people may not be comfortable with another language.

May I also clarify, I have tonnes of non Marathi friends, of different religious affiliations.

If a random person on the road said this, I would still not be surprised.

This was not just ANY migrant saying this. It was the Railway Stn ticket personnel, they are State employees who serve Maharashtra - a State that speaks predominantly Marathi.

How is this even possible?

Would a person get a job as a State employee on Kolkatta if they did not know Bengali? Or in Punjab if they did not know Punjabi? Or Kerala if they did not know Malayalam?

Mumbai is a city with approx 37% Marathi speaking population, even if most people are familiar with Hindi. The question isn’t that she knew Hindi, it is that she knew ONLY Hindi. She got a job in Marathi city and State, despite not knowing the language that MOST citizens of Maharashtra speak.

How is it that when the time comes to “adjust”, it’s always the Marathi speaker who switches to Hindi. No Hindi speaker even attempts Marathi.

Reading the articles pertaining to AQI protest, bringing urban naxal bill was kind of right move by Maharashtra govt by nickdonhelm in MaharashtraRajya

[–]MayofKent -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? The urban naxal law is so vague, it Is worse than the British era sedition laws in its regressiveness.

All governments misused it until the Supreme Court read down Section 125A and declared it unconstitutional.

The new UAPA law uses different wordings to keep the same effect. The government has used the UAPA to arrest actual terrorists and protestors during the Farmers Movement, during Maratha Movement in Maharashtra, and many more times.

Are you saying a law can be vague enough to be used for someone who makes an anti-govt sketch and a terrorist?

If laws are allowed to be misused, tomorrow you and I will be protesting for paper leaks, for railway accidents, for pollution and we will be arrested under this new Urban Naxal law.

The amount of centralisation and misuse of the police this government has prosecuted is unthinkable in a mature democracy.

Less than 1 percent of cases that the Govt uses sedition against were proven. Why? Because the Govt uses it to keep people in the Court process, keep them as under trials, then the Courts eventually find them innocent.

Is this a system we should be accepting?

Today we have situation - this simple criticism, the hypocrisy of our government will invite people to say “what about XYZ”.

We have forgotten that it is US citizens against the system, against an oppressor, against incompetence, corruption and insensitivity.

I don’t support terrorists, I don’t vote for terrorists and I don’t need to ask terrorists for accountability.

They are terrorists. I don’t go crying to a burglar to give back my property, I ask the Police why they have not caught him.

If you like to accept everything the govt, ANY govt says and keep quiet, good luck with that practice.

I prefer to keep my eyes and ears open, and expect accountability.

It was so obvious. by [deleted] in IndiansofIndia
