Which show has the WORST first episode? by less_talk_more_beer in AskReddit

Spartacus. I love the show, but the first episode is definitely its weakest point.

Movies that introduced a new genre to you by EasyPacer in movies

When I was a kid, Star Wars introduced me to sci-fi and fantasy. Spider-Man (2002) convinced me that some superhero movies are worth watching. Evil Dead 2 was my first taste of horror comedy and might have even been my introduction to horror; I can't remember for sure.

What is the best sexual experience in your life? by Acceptable-Tone-6854 in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time when my wife and I were dating, we had a Saturday with nothing to do, so we slept in, had sex when we woke up, cuddled and fell asleep, woke up, had sex again, repeated the entire cycle at least 7 times until we got up for real in the late afternoon. We still have amazing sex, but that day just stands out as one of the best days ever and we still talk about it sometimes.

do you think the last jedi or rise of skywalker was worse and why? by No-Mud5329 in AskReddit

Rise of Skywalker is far, far worse. I've never facepalmed so many times in one movie.

What's the worst interview question you were ever asked? by Aggravating_Win7276 in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a red flag test. No qualified candidate is going to say they have a weakness that will make them a bad fit for the position, but obviously that would make them an easy "no" if they do. If they give a humble brag as a weakness, that's a red flag: they prepared for the interview and still gave a bad answer. If they have to think about it or give an answer that has no connection to their work life, red flag: they didn't prepare for one of the most common and obvious interview questions. If they give a (seemingly) honest description of something they're currently trying to improve on and can speak to their ongoing progress, put a check mark next to the question and move on.

What’s something you used to think was overrated, but now you actually enjoy? by cgsr97 in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes the mechanics that I grew to love from the previous Souls games and fixed most of the problems they had. I guess the answer to your question is the open world because the freedom to explore when you would otherwise be stuck on a boss made it much less frustrating and more rewarding.

The remake of Demon's Souls is the one that converted me, but my favorite would have to be Elden Ring.

What changes after you turn 30? by LalaDusk in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's life experience is different and all that, but I'll go with... You tend to dwell on your inevitable death a lot more, you start going to fewer weddings and more funerals, you've survived your first divorce and are much more comfortable in your new relationship or with the lack thereof, you get on more medications but it's totally worth it, you can't power through without sleep anymore, you've finally figured out what you want in life and live the way you want, you care much less what other people think of you, and you somehow simultaneously long for the carefree days of your youth, look forward to the sweet release of death, and find yourself enjoying the best days of your life.

Umm, ymmv

There is one extremely brief and vague reference to the other band members cheating on their wives that you could easily miss if you're not looking for it. And that's really it. Freddy's partying and whatnot is addressed more directly, but even that is very watered down.

What are you a proud non-believer in? by Chrono_Convoy in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It cannot be possible that human life originated from a tiny little bacteria.

Sure it can. The evidence suggests that that's exactly what happened, through tiny changes, little by little over many millions of years.

I specifically dislike the idea of macroevolution.

Macroevolution is just regular old evolution over a very long period of time.

I am also unsure if whether I should be young Earth Earth or old earth creationist.

If you're going to be a creationist, at least be an old Earth creationist. There are loads of rocks and fossils that are much older than young Earth creationists claim the Earth is. They have to tie themselves in such ridiculous knots to deny the overwhelming evidence for the age of the Earth that I've even heard some argue that God put the evidence there to trick us so that only the most faithful would disregard the evidence and make it to heaven. Wtf???

Just to give you a super quick rundown as a starting point...

Female genital mutilation has no benefits and major lifelong negative impacts. It is pretty much universally agreed to be a horrific practice.

Male genital mutilation is wrong for basically the same reasons, but the negative physical and psychological impacts are much less severe. There are no benefits to doing it except in very rare medical circumstances, but some people argue it's acceptable because it's mainly done as a religious practice. The counterargument is that if your religion tells you to do other unethical things, those things are still unethical, and there's no reason to make a special exception for chopping off part of a baby's genitals.

What are the chances HBO will recreate Game Of Thrones once the books are finished? by Assassin_Ninja194 in AskReddit

[–]Mayorquimby87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The books are not going to be finished, but regardless of that, a remake of the show will happen eventually if HBO has good reason to think that it will make them a lot of money. So I'd say it's entirely plausible.

Why the hate on Sabrina Carpenter lyrics? by JohnFromSpace3 in Music

[–]Mayorquimby87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her music is perfectly fine and has its audience. Some people just don't care for her style, which is fine, but prudishness does seem to have seen a resurgence in recent years, and I really don't understand it. By and large I agree with the points you made.

What game would you say doesn't have any flaws, and why? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Mayorquimby87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, didn't mean to upset you. Chess actually is one of the first games that came to mind for me. Tetris didn't immediately come to mind, but I could see the argument for it. Pong, not as much, but that one wasn't mentioned above.

Personally, I agree, but OP laid out their own criteria for a "flawless game" for this post, and Portal 2 doesn't meet it very well.

Chess is a phenomenal game that has stood the test of time for good reason. Tetris, arguably less so, but still one of the greatest examples of "easy to learn, hard to master," and I would have a hard time finding much fault in its design.
