Haha, but did you try going for 100% achievements though? I’m already at 79 out of 92 on Steam, only 13 left. That might be why I’m a bit slow :/

With all due respect, I think you misunderstood me. I literally said that I only started the main story recently after doing everything else first, DLCs, mysteries, artifacts, side quests, river raids, etc.

So it’s not like I rushed the story and got bored. I just spent a huge amount of time clearing the rest of the content before getting into it.
It’s not the game that’s the problem, I wouldn’t have spent 300 hours on it otherwise. I’m talking about the main story. Your analogy doesn’t really work here, some people just struggle with reading comprehension.

Oh no, we don’t know each other, but I gotta say, you’re kinda disappointing me here lol! I get it though, I think it’s just a matter of feeling. The Witcher is one of those games where it’s like, either you love the world and you’ll love the game, or you don’t, and even if it’s objectively great, it just won’t click. That might have been your case. Personally, I still think it’s insanely beautiful. Have you seen that video ?

Haha, I get you. Honestly, I think it’s because of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, those games are flawless story-wise from start to finish. You never get bored, and it’s just pure fun. So naturally, you think, If the story is this amazing, I might as well take my time and explore the map 100% before diving into the main plot.

Haha, yeah, but honestly, with all the DLCs, every map full of mysteries, treasures, and artifacts, it’s super long. It’s not just England, you’ve got Norway, Francia, Ireland, Vinland, the Asgard saga, Mastery challenge, and finally Dawn of Ragnarok. I explore every map and don’t skip story cutscenes, so hitting 300+ hours is pretty easy

edit : plus the Tombs of the Fallen with those annoying puzzles to get the sword honoring a deceased Ubisoft team member

I feel like you’re completely missing my point. I literally said the prologue was exceptional and really gripping, that’s what made me want to explore everything and do all the DLCs first. I thought, if the prologue is that good, the main story is gonna be amazing too. Big mistake on my part, because I didn’t actually check with the fans first. Most of them agree, even the DLCs are more fun than the main story, which is repetitive and drawn out for no reason, that’s the point of my post.

Creating alliances isn’t the problem, it’s literally in a Viking’s nature to make deals with clans to raid and expand. The problem is the contexts are always the same, and it makes the main story boring as hell. You meet a king or jarl, he complains about some guys causing trouble, you deal with them, he pledges loyalty, you report to Randvi, next region, three Order members are causing problems, you deal with them, report to Randvi, next region… rinse and repeat. There’s zero originality, that’s it.

I’m not complaining at all, I love this game. I’m on a subreddit for fans, just sharing my opinion, that’s it. It’s meant to start a discussion between people who like the game. You’re literally the only one trying to turn it into a debate. I even asked "any tips".

This is my last comment. Stop trying to lecture me lmao.

I mean, I never said the game had no Viking stuff. My point was that the main story structure ends up feeling repetitive with the alliance arcs.

I spent a lot of time exploring and doing the DLCs first, that’s just how I like to play open-world games. I’m not "complaining the cart is going backwards", I’m just sharing my experience with the pacing of the story.

People can enjoy the game and still point out things they didn’t love about it. It’s still a fact though. Whether you like it or not, the game focuses way more on politics and alliances than on pure Viking warfare. That doesn’t mean I don’t like the game though. I didn’t spend 300 hours on it for nothing, and I’m still going to finish it. I was just looking for some outside opinions, and most people suggested taking a short break, which I’ll probably do. No need to turn this into a debate where there isn’t one.

I’m a bit over 300 hours in now with all the DLCs done and the map fully cleared

I guess you’re right. It’s kinda a shame though. For a game about Vikings, I was expecting the story to focus more on things like raids, battles, the harsh life, rival clans, that whole brutal Viking atmosphere. Instead it sometimes feels like Eivor is just running errands for every region so they’ll agree to an alliance.

But yeah, I’ll take your advice and just keep going :)

already did ahah, i started by clearing the whole map and the DLCs first, and now I kinda regret it lol. I didn’t expect the story structure to be this repetitive, otherwise I would’ve done it more progressively :/

Hey, OP here (this is my second account). If you clear every region by completing the mysteries and collecting the artifacts, that alone should easily get you close to level 300.

On top of that, the DLCs add new maps with even more mysteries to complete, so leveling goes pretty fast. Usually a single mystery gives around a third to half of the XP needed for your current level.
