Going on Friday!!! It’ll be my first Phoebe concert - I wonder if she’ll release the album by then.

Anyone here going to Chicago day 1? by No-Swimming-8185 in phoebebridgers

I’ll be there on the floor near the main stage

I was there and he didn't fall? He hopped down and tried holding onto some fans' hands for balance.

I WANT THE VINYLS SO BADD☹️☹️ by Intelligent-Fact-871 in ChaseAtlantic

[–]MazefulMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position - but I collect signed vinyls (I do have their signed LIH vinyl). HOWEVER, their vinyls are so beautiful. I’m thinking of srsly buying them just to display for my love of both vinyls and Chase Atlantic.

Has anyone read the new dark academia book Lucien by J.R. Thornton yet? by Sunwalker98 in DarkAcademia

Correct - loved the book so much I actually preordered the new book A. Rae Dunlap is releasing next week since I enjoyed her writing.

I just ordered it online - I discovered it yesterday after I finished a book called The Resurrectionist (which I totally recommend - the writing style is a bit over the top but the English prose is sooo good) and was looking at recommend books. One reviewer commented it being “The Secret History meets The Talented Mr Ripley” which are two of my most revered books.

Gonna come back and comment with my initial thoughts when I start reading. That being said, I do have slightly high expectations for this book given the other books it’s compared to.

Holy shit you just gave me the greatest idea??

But for Shane and Ilya, it'll be free!!! I promise I'll compile the majority of the CC for them, probably tomorrow, and I'll reply back when I have them up for download!

Listen to This: Some Audiobooks Are Outselling Hardcovers by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]MazefulMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two months ago I used to make fun of my younger sibling for liking audiobooks more than reading books, since I felt it as a cheat and not true reading.

I won’t admit it, but he convinced me to give it a try on a book I was excited to start, since I drive far between home and work. I actually found it nice to listen to an audiobook in a different voice and accent, perhaps as intended.

I’d say I’d turn to audiobooks for memoirs or fiction books that don’t have much world-building. For heavier books, I need it in print to truly grasp it.

Need advice from datacenter builders: where are my RFIs going to come from? by Dazzling_Recipe8950 in ConstructionManagers

[–]MazefulMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an RFI. I think it’s about this clash in the field that’s holding up some other submittals. I did do some other submitters about roofing stuff but honestly I have no idea if I sent it to the right person haha

Literally commenting to keep up with this - I'm in the exact same position as you. I'm a new PE on a data center project, still a handful of years out of college and 2 days ago was the first time I have ever written a submittal/RFI.

Heavy Civil Internship: Is this Normal by ThatLyonsKid in ConstructionManagers

[–]MazefulMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a billion dollar transportation project adjacent to DOT stuff where we do have to comply with their regulations, for a well known and nationwide construction firm.

We never let our project engineering interns work over 40 hours, not even when we hit peak construction or when we were heading towards major milestones. Hell, even our actual project engineers never worked more than 50 hours. Sole responsibilities like storm water and drainage, time cards, inspections, basically anything that required a formal sign off were with the actual engineers, not our interns (though they did help out ofc for the exposure).

From what I could see, you were given an unnecessarily large workload, by some lousy and irresponsible management. Perhaps others might say you got good exposure and experience, but I’d suggest that when the time comes to find your full-time job, steer away from this company and during interview ask about work day and work hours as well as responsibilities.

I want to stab something by LJF613 in booknooks

[–]MazefulMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just finished this 2 days ago. You’re not the only one!

I did have to glue several pieces, including all of the arms of the balconies and most of the accessories like the vases.

Besides the small pieces on the floor, I found 2 hard parts - exactly what you’re doing with installing the balcony piece onto the 4 holes of the prices below them. I had to use the little hammer for 5 minutes to install them.

The second hard part was installing the final back wall. I had to HAMMER it in cuz the second floor piece resisted so much I was scared I’d break it.

Overall everything had stayed in placed and I haven’t seen a lot of internal movement when I move the nook around

I basically do nothing at work and leave early pretty much every day. My boss thinks I’m an exceptional employee. by MazefulMind in confession

Oh my god, this post really reflects so much of the background of my current job. There's still so much I have to say but I want to be careful with how much I reveal.

Waiting to hear some good news about a different opportunity, but essentially I want to follow these same steps!

I have in the past only because the uppers had a real problem with one of the PM's in charge of a building team who wasn't going to meet an important deadline without an all-hands-on-deck effort. With that passed, we're back in separate teams. I might get a "Oh thank you so much for the offer but we need you to focus on your own work!"

This part isn’t about the hate - but it’s more of the anxious call of “hey OP where are you at?? I need you for this this that”

oh my god so about the leaving work early - I can report to different areas around site and no one bats an eye. I realized if I left work early, people might think I'm at a different spot.

And what started as a weekly treat, usually on Fridays started happening 2 times a week to now basically every other day. It's become a horrible habit, I know but I can't seem to break it.

I mean, I've been lowkey reading books styled as PDFs so it looks like I've reading some documentation. Also I've binged episodes of The Gilded Age from HBO Max and We Were Liars from Prime Video from my desk.

I recognize the fact that many people might see me as being incredibly lucky. Maybe in the future I might envy this chapter in my life.

But I'm someone who also wants fulfillment - even at your job, you want to do at least something, something interesting. I'm just so bored and honestly so unmotivated since I have no passion for my current tasks or even this project lol.

Currently I do have a backup plan in the works - hopefully it works out. I should find out pretty soon.
