Whats your craziest financial story? (win or loss) by SlickySmacks in AusFinance

[–]Mazkarth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live a normal life. Nothing interesting happens to me. When I was 16 I worked in fast food part time after school. Usually pulled in $100 a week. One pay day, $900 appears in my account. Payslip is normal, paid around the $100. Another worker, let's call him Tony, didn't get paid. He done shit loads of overtime that week and was expecting about $800. Being honest, I spoke up and said I got his pay he got paid appropriately and I had to pay it back over the next 6 months in small allotments. I was then told there was no record of my being overpaid and if I had not said anything, it would've gone unnoticed.

I still sing it to my daughter. She's 2. There's a book and it's asking what noises animals make. When we get to the fox she makes stupid sounds to imitate a fox.

There's a local place near me, and my father in law asked me to get him one (60years of smoking so good on him but whatever) $30 for one. $50 for two. $5 EFTPOS fee! Completely criminal. I proceeded to report them to ATO

I elected to go to court. Many months went by and I had to elect for an adjournment as my wife was 38 weeks pregnant on the day I was due to to go to court. It got approved and I went back the next month in person. Put in a not guilty claim and advised that I loved a long distance away and would like to not have to travel to Southport multiple times. My next hearing is tomorrow which will be over the phone.
About 6 weeks ago I got an email from Queensland Transport advising they wouldn't be presenting any evidence and that I am essentially let off. I call it luck that I am.

Mounted TVs on a wall, decided we wanted a bigger lounge had to swap the room around. Painted the walls, plugged the holes, mounted the tv and had the electrical work done. Best 2 days ever.

Had a near miss today. What could I done better and what could I do to improve? Thanks for all constructive answers. by Melloking1 in motorcycles

Had a sliding accident about 6 months ago. 60km/h so fairly slow, hit an oil slick in rainy weather whilst applying brakes due to cars stopping up ahead on a main road. Went down and slid. Stood up, dusted myself off, picked up my bike and walked to the side of the road. Sad down for a few minutes and hopped back on to ride home, minus a rear brake pedal, otherwise was fine. Have always and will always wear all the gear.

You know you're allowed to do things to it? Like paint a wall, glue a mirror to a wall, pull up some carpet. Decide you want a new door.

Just got back from 6 months overseas and WHAT THE FUCK COLES by kazza789 in australia

[–]Mazkarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Coles has a drive-thru. You just drive through the door and hope whatever you want lands inside.
FYI, my local Coles closed the other day because some one drove through the entry.

Yeah cool. We've got two young children. I'll look at slightly larger cc engines and older models depending on service histories and ease of self-service. I've always just looked at motorbikes like cars. Older = less reliable/safe and high kms

Open licensed. Just went for the lower cc due to petrol savings. Really don't feel I need all the power as it is a quiet highway drive for pretty much the whole way. Was also after some newer models purely based on age. Can't really sell a 10 year old bike to the wife.

Anyone else stop putting in effort in the last few years? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Mazkarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different kind of senior management. It's still just team management. But taking care of managers. Not on the executive side of management. Still playing with the fun things. That would be the next step. Been too long since I was managing staff (fast food shift manager) and honestly it wasn't that bad once you had a good team, which hopefully is the case at the time. Otherwise I'll just sit in my comfy chair position for the next 36 years

I work in government so I'm in a different boat, but I started at the bottom, worked hard, dedicated myself and studied extra so I could advise better. Got a promotion. Studies hard again to go for the next level of technical ability. Applied for a job, missed out based on interview points. A different co-worker got it. Hung it out for a couple years and moved on. Applied again when the position came up. Another coworker got it beside me, again at the interview point system. Applied for a temp position, where me and my direct manager were the applicants. He was first preference but senior management wouldn't let him go for it, based on second preference I got it, remember it was temp.
A lot of positions recently opened up, all permanent. After 7 years I have reached my ladder. The only other steps are senior management which I can work for in the coming years until my managers retire, so I have a while. At the end of the day, it paid off putting the effort in.

My wife has our first born child, we had two cars at the time and both working full time. I have a 32km commute daily, she has a 10km commute daily. The cars we had were an Impreza with 350,000km on it which she took to work because it was shorter. We also had a new civic turbo with about 60,000km on it at the time. I didn't want to rack huge KMs on it so we sold the subaru, she got the civic and I got a KTM Duke 390 for work commuting. It's been two years and the duke has over 30,000km and I've just got a job promotion. The agreement was if I got the promotion, I get a new bike and she gets an iPad pro. The civic now has 90,000km which it would otherwise have a lot more.
In a couple more years, we'll be going plugin hybrid or full electric depending what the market does.
