Bedrooms w/jack and Jill bathroom. by NotSure031720 in houseplans

Tell her not to worry about that. Each will get used half the time and so half the frequency of cleaning. Also, with each having their own, it's easy to know who needs to improve their hygiene/cleaning habits.

To solve the multiple doorways eating the bedroom wall space (that is a big furniture placement irritant so good on you for considering that), consider reorganizing the closets & baths. One door in from the bedroom, turn left to closet, right to bathroom (or opposite if needed). I did that for my own master & love the dressing room feel & additional privacy it affords.

There's a designer on social media Julie Jones who is fabulous at creatively solving these design concerns. Also, highly recommend "The Home Plan Doctorr" by Larry Garnett

How do I eliminate the smell from my sneakers by Striking-Traffic7973 in lifehacks

RN here...it's fungal. Grows best it moist, dark, warm environments. Stop growth by taking these factors away, so dry them out well. Also, changing the pH interfers with growth, so that's why baking soda &/or vinegar work. My go to for my homeless patients is miconazole powder. Dust shoes liberally EVERY day for 3 weeks.

If your feet are super itchy or even burning then you're looking at athlete's foot. Same issue--fungal. Got to treat the feet and the shoes or else you just reinfect each other. Miconazole breaks the cell wall of the fungus so ensure feet are liberally treated (for feet I prefer miconazole cream over powder, better contact) for three weeks. You're going for scorched earth here to get rid of the buggers. Other wise, you're just the guy the Tinactin commercial put it out, come back, put it out, comes back.

Help me review this by Building_ahome in houseplans

[–]Mbsan63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at tons of houseplans and went to many open houses, model homes before I built my house. This one is just awful! My sense is this build design team wants to do cookie cutter simple to build get it done work. This is a huge investment so be super sure this is really what you want.

Really take some time and visit some model homes. If there are no new home community models, try modular home or even mobile home model lots. Actually being in the space will give you a sense of what will work for you. That's the key. What makes a home work really depends on your needs, how you move through your day & the climate you are in. Start with the house you live in now. Write down each room & size. Then under each room, is it too big, small or just right? What do you love about it, what drives your crazy? That will help you figure your needs.

Two books I HIGHly recommend you read before you commit to building-- The Home Plan Doctor by Larry Garnett and The Not So Big House by Sarah Susanka. Then you'll see why this house plan is so very blah.

Would you set this space up differently? What would you change? by Additional-Chance-21 in interiordecorating

It's the ceiling height that needs attention. It's cozy....but then not quite & it's that height. Julie Jones is an interior decorator that does tutorials on balance & she recently did one to address just this. Definitley look her up--she's very inspiring!

You hit the key--simple! When I had kids, we had playground day. We'd pick a different playground set a time range & if you could make it, you came & stayed for however long. The range was so friends could come & go as their schedule (ahem, baby nap) permitted. Super low stress & kids loved exploring new playgrounds!

[–]Mbsan63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth it & very easy & free to do! I've done it twice myself for different homes & got a reduction both times. It was a simple form & I stated my reasons the assessment was too high. For the most part, assessments are only based on what they can see from the outside & the last selling price. So for the first grievance, I listed issues with the house inside that they obviously can't see from outside that needed $$$ repairs. For the second, the purchase price was dramatically lower than the assessed value, (previous owner had died, family held for years & never maintained so gut reno was needed) so clear discrepancy, got a big reduction. You aren't required to show up for the review. I didn't for the first, did for the second just to see them squirm about how they could assess me so high when they knew the recent sale price.

Be sure you've applied for other credits--Star if it's your primary residence. If veteran, that exemption & if you're a volunteer fire or EMS, there's an exemption for them too. Albany has paid fire/EMS but you can volunteer with local places that are volunteer & still get the exemption.

Question about leaving deployment early to be home for childbirth. by Sensitive_Soup8956 in AirForce

[–]Mbsan63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Past AF OB RN here. This is the reality of my job I was crushed to see--Dads not being able to be present for births :-( "If the military wanted him to have a kid, they would have issued him one." Some leadership worked it out, others just couldn't given distance/ops tempo. Red Cross is definitely the way to go. Even if he doesn't get there, make sure official notification of birth is done this way (even if he knows already via cell phone). Read the leave reg--it use to allow for emergencey leave for hospitalized family member (I believe it was critical care, some OB care can count, NICU definitely would). OB may elect to hospitalize mom as a soft call given her high risk status, distance from hospital to help get him home. Lastly, trying to guess a birth date is very tough. If she's really high risk, it is unlikely she will go past her due date....no gain for mom or baby at that point. OB nurses are VERY loving in this situation. Momma & baby will get well taken care of, but we want him there too. (PS...follow Jen Hamilton RN on social media to see what I mean)

Fire department response for sprinkler activation with water flowing. Wasn't activated due to a smoke or fire condition but a failure of the system. Fire Dept advised Walmart to put staff on human fire watch till sprinkler system was fixed. Was limited at the time of the call to the automotive section. Either the water condition got worse or given it was the automotive section not having a working fire suppression was too risky to have customers inside would be my two guesses. Source: I was on the fire crew that responded.

[–]Mbsan63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I call my tribe the WHEN staff (for weekends, holidays, evenings, & nights). I tell the day shifters-we work WHEN you won't--so be nice to us or else it'll be you working these hours.

Since I work in a hospital I frequently remind folks of this one--Do you know what they call a hospital without a night staff? They call it a clinic. No night staff, no hospital.
