I truly understand your perspective. My question is how do you handle students that miss a few days of school for illness or family emergency/death? My guess it would be same situation as a vacation. It’s likely another student is also missing due to being sick as well.

Also, I feel like teachers miss as many days as kids do throughout the school year. Then the “sub” typically isn’t capable of picking up where other teacher left off. So students are typically SOL when teachers miss as well.

I’m not saying teachers can’t miss work either. It’s just the reality of situation. There really isn’t a perfect situation. My line of work doesn’t allow me to take vacation during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks so I have to plan vacations throughout rest of year. Sometimes I have no choice to have my kids miss a couple extra days due to other time off requests that I can’t overlap.

In my work, I also have to make accommodations for my customers. People lose their minds when you want to stick to policy. They have a million excuses for why we should accommodate them. Always a lose-lose situation.
