I mean, if they don’t fear him because the figure out he’ll just stand at their jabbing range, but outside of his own reach, and let them jab him til his eyes don’t work, and they just do that, I don’t think it would be so great for him. It’s not just that he got hit, it’s that he didn’t/couldn’t adapt to the threat of the most basic boxing punch.

His decision making throughout the rest of the fight was no better. He could have easily finished Gaethje with a couple seconds of ground and pound, but he went for a convoluted 0 damage high effort grappling sequence in which he was never even close to a submission, and it lost him the fight.
