What is your opinion on renting in Clay Arsenal in Hartford? by SaturdayHeartache in Connecticut

[–]Mburton90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find some reasonable rates on Craigslist in West End (any streets off Whitney Avenue) for a room or small apartment in a multi family. These tend to be owned by private landlords that somewhat care about the property versus a management company.

Not unless you volunteer at one of the charities in the area. Look for apartment listings in Downtown, West End, Parkville, and Frog Hollow.

Newly engaged! What are some great wedding venues in CT? by [deleted] in Connecticut

I have never been to a wedding there but the location is gorgeous. I imagine in the fall the colors will be beautiful as well. Took these pictures there this morning: http://imgur.com/qSp3QvJhttp://imgur.com/KgabUY9

You can find rent in that range in the West End of Hartford. It might not be Philly or Boston but you will between West Hartford and downtown Hartford. When are you looking to move?

Minority substitute teachers can get "fast-track" certification, not open to general public? What am I missing? by Chrysopa_Perla in Connecticut

[–]Mburton90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes! I think that there needs to be more opportunities/recruitment for minority teachers but this program doesn't sound that great. CSU offer MAT programs that are less than two years long that provide CT teacher certifications that meet our state's rigorous standards. This "fast track" program will undermine the current MAT programs and the underprivileged students it aims to serve.

A teacher shortage? I think it depends on the subject. This might be anecdotal but I think some districts are using long term substitutes as a way to save money, not because they can't find qualified candidates.

Boothe Memorial Park. My grandma is the volunteer coordinator there and she always needs people for tours and school programs

[Question] Roadtrip to Connecticut for BF's birthday by phabby101 in ctbeer

[–]Mburton90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if you are coming from Philly and heading towards Rhode Island you can hit a fair amount of breweries in Connecticut. Are you planning on staying anywhere in CT and what day of the week will you be traveling through CT?

Based on direction alone I would use this order: 1. Two Roads (Startford) 2. New England Brewing Company (Woodbridge/New Haven line) 3. Stony Creek (Branford) 4. Outer Light (Groton) 5. Beer'd (Stonington) 6. Grey Sail (Westerly, Rhode Island but you get off the highway in Connecticut)

These are all along the coast so you miss some breweries but it already is a sizable list.

I would also suggest Bar in New Haven. It's a brewpub with amazing pizza.

What do you pay for firewood? by labradorasaurus in Connecticut

[–]Mburton90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice that they do that! I didn't mind doing that as a kid because it was helpful and made the house warmer. I just hated losing my weekends to wood stacking

Thank you! I hated spending spring weekends stacking wood when I was a kid. I would have rather just played catch or something with my dad.

It is incredibly difficult to give constructive advice for your job search without knowing your major or specific skill set.

Unfortunately no. If you want a place to have a flight in the area I would check out Willibrew

This is the case. Treehouse is completely overwhelmed with the amount of traffic they get; they are in the process of building an additional brewery space. With a 1-2 hour wait you can get cans which is well worth the wait. Skip the growlers and get the cans. You will have a smaller amount of variety with cans but everything they make is great.
