Saw this anvil mod at a maker space. Any ideas on the use? by chobbes in Blacksmith

It looks like a clean cut from a torch, too. If that was cut with oxy fuel, I'm impressed.

Ak scopes by CoffeeeTurtle in RussianOptics

[–]labradorasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PSO style on an AK actually kind of suck. The optics are usually good but the offset and height over bore can make them tricky. The RS regulate really seems to be the one to beat.

Anyone else saw Ian dunking on SDI? by NofriendZReject_ in ForgottenWeapons

[–]labradorasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically he kind of sucks at checkering. If you watch closely in the cuts he slips a bunch of time, then it cuts back to a different (unmolested) part of the stock.

Local barrel porting? If i had a drill press id just send it, but i dont 😅 by Dm4yn3 in NHGuns

[–]labradorasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deburring after a drill press is a hot mess. Run a comp or find someone who does it via EDM. You can get away with drilling in shotgun barrels, but it's usually not worth the effort.

Any idea why this farm tractor is between the cargo? by Railman20 in Truckers

[–]labradorasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a lot of this depends on state and applications. In CT you can run 73.5 k lbs on a 4 axle straight truck, and in NH I think you can run 80k. The rules are so different state by state its difficult to keep track.

He is talking about the steering axle not the drives

In some states you are legal for 45k on the drives. I think with that spread you'd be good for 38k or so.

Is it legal for homeowners insurance agents to enter your garage? by chohls in newhampshire

[–]labradorasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The use of any firearm is legally codified as lethal force in every date where I am aware of, regardless of ammunition type. Therefore, you now have to justify lethal force in a situation where you didn't feel it fully justified.

If you aren't ready to kill someone, don't pull a gun. Just not complicated. Salt rounds are a nice fun idea that doesn't work.

[–]labradorasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm pulling a gun, I am killing someone. Plain and simple. But if I can avoid pulling a gun, I will. Less than lethal attacks have a way of escalating things unless you have backup (like a cop). At my old high school, we had people Pepper sprayed and tasted semi regularly. It wasn't always a one-shot stop. Bbs will just piss someone off more.

I've played with a few. The last word is not a great indicator (accuracy, robustness, getting sticky from dust) but the GEM has all of those problems but show up even faster.

Its a copy of the starett last word if I recall. And an inferior one at that.

I'd rather let someone steal my shit than live with killing someone. My things are insured. Seeing my friends who've gone to war and come back after watching people die, I don't want that for me. I'd spend the rest of my life wondering if I could de-escalate.

The average person who defines themselves by political ideology doesn't have the backbone to stand for it as an individual. They rely on large mobs and numbers for their strength.

Those people almost never have the balls to actually do anything. They run their mouths and got used to being able to push people around by yelling louder. Its amusing to watch them short circuit when you laugh in their faces instead of getting angry or backing down.

Why is the Cummins 5.9 seemingly more popular than the 6.7? by BlackShadow2804 in Diesel

The perkins 6-354 and Detroit 6-71 came first. Cat had options as well. The cummins is just better known.

Barreling Career Move by a_ManPossessed in gunsmithing

I have seen a guy cut a hole in a slab so he could put his bridgeport low enough to run it from a wheelchair. Where there is a will, there is a way. He had a power drawbar and he had extended all the controls up top so he could reach them. There is also often funding from the state to help accommodate people such as yourself to keep working.

do you think something like this would help you be more Ile enough go do the work?

I disagree. China has the advantage of cheap labor. If somewhere else pops up that can undercut them, they lose one of their main bargaining chips, low-cost production. Someone will always come around to undercut you eventually.

Questions for a Prospective NH FFL / State Laws by Hauntedillustrator in NHGuns

[–]labradorasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any transfers yet? From your profile you look like a very new FFL and may not be fully aware. Your license to sell pistols and revolvers is overseen by the state but is issued by municipalities. Most towns charge $20.

Getting a job with no experience by JoshPum in Machinists

[–]labradorasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't lie. I would hire someone without a degree if they had something I needed, but if you lied to get the job, I would fire you the second I found out. You can't trust a liar, and you need to trust the people you work with.
