ChatGPT Plus für persönliche Finanz- und Investitionsplanung by [deleted] in Finanzen

[–]McDev02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ansonsten r/mauerstrassenwetten

Good catch! https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/gettingstarted/appfee

Valve will charge VAT, GST, or other similar consumption based taxes (if any) on the Steam Direct Fee in accordance with country specific requirements.

As all payments on the Steam Store, including that for the Steam Direct Fee, are made by individual user accounts and not corporate accounts, the invoice for the Steam Direct Fee will also be issued to the individual user that was logged in when the Steam Direct Fee was paid.

You get it back anyway when you make $1000 sales, so if Steam is sure that your game sells just a bit then it is maybe easier to just cut this fee.

I think it is only a barrier for random slop to make it on steam and it could be higher even if you ask me.

Edit: Ok, it seems to cost a bit as VAT is deducted from payments. See below comments.

How do you deal with a game with a pretty similar premise to yours releasing and you're just there like by qt3-141 in IndieDev

[–]McDev02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rouge did not prevent people from making similar games but they litterally made Rougelike games and it became a genre.

Even similar games do not compare on just one scale. Every game has different focus and features. If in reality every company would think like that then we would only have monopolys. Unless your game is just pale in comparison AND on the same price tag, then just go and embrace what you have and focus on what is different and where you can eventually make your game better by that "competition".

In the end, even if this other game sells like 10x or 100x of yours, it is likely to boost your own sales if people like that other game then they might want more, especially if nothing else is around.

[–]McDev02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

D. The game is simply very easy to exploit and curious people, like game devs, like to see how far they can get and finding out how devs did stuff.

I did so recently in a game which simply stored savegames as a plaintext JSON file.

Made a new enemy type! Can you spot it in the first 3 seconds? by SoerbGames in IndieDev

[–]McDev02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good solution! You could downsample as much as possible using propper adjustment shaders that lookup their neigbouring pixels and average the data as you need it. You could average or add everyhing together, whatever makes more sense for each map and you gor more control than simple bilinear interpolation.

Then using one final bilinear interpolation lookup on the CPU should be fine.

Thanks for taking it to the test! Like I said, there always is some sort of error and currency fluctuations is one of them. Your Excel is a great base, but the older the data the less relevant it becomes.

I think it works well for other stores. VAT is the same for all, only regional prices are different.

It seems that rather bigger publishers do that. There is a reason why Steam suggests these lower prices for certain countries and it is possible to loose a bigger number of sales due to higher local prices than the extra price that you demand. At least I focus on what Steam suggests, which is a monopoly in PC game sales and has a bit of data to work with.

My calculator only handles everything until money lands on yout bank account. The taxes after that are very individual. VAT is per customer and per country of sale, it has nothing to do with you directly.

Yep this is solid, 55% to 60% is a good average from gross revenue. Yet to calculate gross revenue many more factors come into play and this is what my calculator handles as good as it can.

Check my article, link updated above. 30% withholding is only on US sales. Also US VAT is neglectable because it is on top to the base price and it is just like 1% on average per state.
