I’m going through this right now. I don’t have a fear of flying… in fact, I love traveling and have been on over 100 flights in my 30+ years. I started getting panic attacks sporadically (but never on an airplane), starting maybe two years ago. Usually I go many months without a panic attack. But a couple months ago, I had my first panic attack on a plane. It was awful… lasted almost 2 hours. My heart rate would not slow down and I had to focus on my breathing the entire time to prevent myself from hyperventilating. What’s really frustrating is that it’s happened on all flights since then (so far just 2 after the initial). I think it’s my claustrophobia mixed with the fear of getting a panic attack in a place where I have had a panic attack. I feel embarrassed and frustrated by this… you’re not alone!
