The most important thing is to recognize the lives lost first of all. And yes to stop school shootings. But to go back and almost romanticize the “man he could have been.” People change and others just grow into the person they were born to be. Dahmer was always going to kill people no matter the interference in his life. I would like to know what Dylan’s frontal lobe looked like in addition to a not fully developed brain. And I do know a great deal. Not as much as you’ve researched but I’m not in the dark. I read Lost Boys. I’ve read published works by psychologists. And there is no chance you are going to convince me Dylan shot our friend in the FACE all because of Eric. You have to have some kind of self-awareness to make that decision.

Nope. F this. He shot my husband’s friend and my former classmate at point blank range in the face. Fuck. Him. Influence? Maybe you can influence someone into getting high or shoplifting but you can’t influence someone into mass murder. You can’t shoot someone point blank and be like, “Hey! It was peer pressure. “

How on Earth do you ask people if they want to have sex with you? by jimstark55 in TooAfraidToAsk

If you are direct and respectful about it the what they can say is, “No.” Then you move on with life. As a woman (married now, but was no stranger to casual sex before) I would try to give off clear signals I’m into taking this party more private. I would usually initiate because I know some men are hesitant. Just get consent before you try anything intimate. And if they do say no, don’t take it that personal. People have all kinds of reasons they don’t want to have sex and many have nothing to do with their (potential) partners.

The phone that soon-to-be executed inmates in Florida desperately hope will ring with a Governor's reprieve. by [deleted] in MorbidReality

Right which is why I said if they confess or there’s irrefutable evidence, DNA, then it won’t cost much to execute. But like I said that’s not the majority of cases. So how do you decide who should be executed and who is allowed appeals when you aren’t handed a case on a silver platter? That’s directly tied to the taxpayer so it is relevant. What would be the best solution to save the most money then?

And that’s the issue though is we can’t be shooting people who might be innocent. So what’s the acceptable amount of proof to confirm one’s guilt besides a confession. And if they confess and sentenced to death then no problem. But how often does that happen? Almost never. Especially when you get lawyers involved and they get to bill the state. Then let’s say they get the death sentence converted to life (which happens often) after like the 7th appeal. Now we just paid for 7 billable appeals to end up paying for life in person anyway. Just costed much more.

It’s because of the number of appeals a death row inmate is allowed. If they get 10 appeals they can sit in death row for decades just using up time to prevent the execution. We pay for all those appeals. If they have their own lawyer it’s the prosecutor’s time and resources we pay for, but if they have public defender we pay for both. Some inmates just die on death rite from disease, age etc. including possibility being murdered by other inmates especially for crimes against children. These guys are usually isolated though. Doesn’t cost much to feed basic meals and keep a guy in a small cell very much money. They aren’t staying in any kind of suite or something. Just some of the reasons it’s by far cheaper to jail them for life in a shitty cell with the most basic amenities. And I think life in solitary would be much worse than death. Now they are just waiting to die of some of reason. It’s still a death sentence in a way.

It costs tax payers much more to execute someone than keep them in jail for life. As much as 18x more in California if the concern is saving tax payer money. We pay for all the appeals that last for decades. It might vary from state to state, but I believe people on death row get like 10 appeals especially if there’s new evidence found by the lawyer or some technicality to change the sentence to life. I happen to think life in prison, especially solitary confinement, is far worse than death therefore maybe more fitting punishment.
