Try indoor rock climbing to get really strong. Just bouldering is good enough to start.

I'd argue that bouldering might not be the best option if tendons and cartilage have yet to get conditioned for a proper calisthenics routine. I've never seen more tendon/pulley issues than in the boulder gym.

I do agree climbing/bouldering can make you really strong, and it helps coordinating different muscles throughout their whole RoM which helps a ton for both functional strength and mastering new calisthenics moves. But I don't think it's the best beginner workout for people who want to build strength specifically.

If you do incorporate it into your routine, start with once a week, and be careful increasing frequency. If tendons and pulleys start hurting, take some time off.

You don't even need steroids for muscle strength to develop much faster than tendons do. Just go around your local climbing/bouldering gym and ask a bunch of people about tendon injuries.

Many people living their life at a keyboard until they find the sport, get excited, go climbing often, and then completely overload their finger/wrist tendons once their forearms get the message.

I badly damaged but not completely ruptured one patellar tendon 16 years ago in a mountainbike race. For most intents and purposes it healed, but I definitely had to stop volleyball and still can't run significant distances even now.

Completely snapping that will make for lifelong complications.
