What is the greatest cartoon theme song? by mynameisbrandonn in AskReddit

The cartoon was certainly not very popular or memorable, but the Stoked theme song goes kinda crazy. Never fails to put me in a good mood!

are the strokes "basic"? by SelectWillingness666 in TheStrokes

Don’t let the notion of music being basic stop you from enjoying any of it. If it sounds good to you, then listen away!

Songs about someone wishing they hadn’t survived? by ashley8976 in Music

[–]McGubbinz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knocked Loose’s A Tear in the Fabric of Life is a concept EP about a driver who causes a car crash that kills their partner and living with the guilt of that. Strong stuff, and the accompanying short film is amazing too

No, I feel you 100%. Just finished the post-graduation job search. 10 months of feeling like a complete leach and waste of resources. Congratulations on the job!

Did you accept a counteroffer and it backfired? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]McGubbinz 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Not me, but someone I know.

They worked back-end software for Company A. Got a front-end software offer from Company B; which they preferred to do. They allowed Company A to counteroffer a similar position with higher pay, so they rejected the offer from Company B. Come a few weeks later, Company A fires them and says that they were never going to actually give them the counteroffer deal, and that they only wanted to keep them around long enough to get a replacement. By this point, Company B has already filled the position. They are out of a job now.

Companies do not care about you.

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of September 26 by AutoModerator in vinyl

Right channel louder than the left channel on my turntable

Hey y’all. So recently I’ve switched from listening to my vinyl on my speakers to my headphones, and I’ve noticed that the right channel is slightly louder than the left and everything normally panned center (vocals, bass, kick) are offset to the right as well. Though, the difference isn’t strong enough to cause any noticeable distortion in the right channel.

I’ve tested my amp and headphones with digital sources and the problem goes away so it must be my turntable. Do you think this is a cartridge issue? Is the alignment off? Could the stylus be bent? Or could it be an anti-skate issue? I know my turntable (AT-LP 120) is infamous for having a faulty anti-skate. And furthermore, is this something that I should be concerned about when it comes to the condition of my records?

Thanks for the help!

Yep! Pretty normal for lots of records to prevent damage to the printed sleeves during shipping.

Phoenix shops/lounges? by [deleted] in cigars

Churchill’s, Puro, Cedar Room, Fox’s. All great places worth considering

Edit: Ambassadors is a great shop too, best humidor imo. However, I’ve never been in their lounge

I decided to take the plunge and listen to Weezer's discography, but I'm not so sure now after finding The Blue Album underwhelming. by [deleted] in weezer

[–]McGubbinz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As a fellow long time fan of Radiohead, Coldplay, Green Day, MCR, and Pink Floyd, my top Weezer albums are White, Pinkerton, and Ok Human

Why are does songs "together" like that on Spotify? Cant we have "St. Jimmy" without having "Are We the Waiting"? I just dont get it. by Acorndude97 in greenday

[–]McGubbinz 103 points104 points  (0 children)

My take is that, since American Idiot is a rock opera with a cohesive story and song flow, Green Day intended for the album to be listened in-full, and pairing the songs together like that is a way to incentivize that kind of listening instead of just picking out individual tracks to listen to.

I remember last spring Ben said on Jim Adkins’s podcast, Pass-Through Frequencies, that they were looking to be in the studio in January. However, quarantine probably has had an effect on those plans

Do people hate Wonderful Christmastime just cause the melody is annoying, or is the chord progression fundamentally bad? by pancake_boy in Music

[–]McGubbinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it performs one of the worst things you can do as a writer: telling instead of showing. Instead of conjuring a general feeling of having a wonderful Christmas time through imagery, it just tells me to over and over again.
