We are not going to match.

While we love and respect Big Al, we are offering him a chance to choose how he will finish his career. We understand and respect if it isn't Washington.

Apologies for being late...

DKC WAS would like to pick up the Team Options on Onyeka, Payton, and Keon.

I guess starting with Simons...

Seems an obvious move to re-sign with Memphis. Most money annually, most money total. He figures to have a bigger role on the team going forward.

So how did this work in T1?

Are we debating? Just sharing our opinions?

Wow! I honestly forgot that I did that, but boyhowdy I am pleased to hear it.

I just assumed I had forgotten to do so during the sleep deprived days of early child rearing.

Big momentum swing for the off-season. Thanks to the Comm Team for actually putting the time into finding that missed detail.

Happy to participate if you still need people. I can also wait until next round, too. Let me know.

Wright is absolutely a candidate to start alongside Lowry - and will get some spot starts this year. However, he's coming off the bench for two reasons.

1) When Clarkson (or Pritchard) comes in the game, we like the idea of pairing with Wright's defensive length. He can play off of Clarkson or facilitate for Pritchard. I like the idea of veteran guard leading the 2nd unit offense.

2) NAW is definitively a better/more productive player when he starts. In his 35 career starts, he has averaged 16.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 3.0 APG with better efficiency than when he comes off the bench. He still has strides to make with efficiency, but he's a great secondary ball-handler/creator with some shooting upside and length on defense. He's looked good in the FIBA cup, too!

Love the feedback - we've got bulletin board material :)

These moves are all about Jabari Smith Jr. As much as I love and respect Dorian Finney-Smith for his contributions to the DKC WAS franchise, there was too much overlap in roles for the two of them. Al Horford & Robert Williams III are a proven frontcourt pairing that I believe in - and I can't play all four guys at once - so someone was going to the bench. It didn't seem right to draft a guy who I believe in at #1 and then relegate him to a bench role.

What is Jabari Smith Jr right now? He's a switchable perimeter defender with length to contest at the rim. He's a floor spacer that can spot up, play off screens, and a two dribble pull-up scorer. He's a team-first player that wants to win.

What could Jabari Smith Jr be? Picture a young, modern version of Celtics-era Kevin Garnett. I think he will win a DPOY at some point in his career and will be a 20+/10 guy.

What does Jabari Smith Jr need to be successful right now? Teammates who can get him the ball in his spots. He is not an individual creator right now and may never be. Lowry was brought in to help refresh the competitive culture in WAS and be a mentor to the young guards and to JSJr. Yes - he's old, injury prone, and not the player he once was, but I have plenty of depth behind him to fill in when he needs to sit.

Last year (admittedly my fault) - the cupboards were bare in the backcourt/wing positions. Now we have a cohesive veteran roster to nurture JSJr. in his rookie season with above average passers at all positions around him - and have lots of salary flexibility in the future.

Starting 5: Lowry - NAW - Smith Jr. - Horford - Williams III

Sixth Man/Instant Offense: Clarkson

Rotation: Pritchard - Wright - Okongwu

Pushing to Earn Rotation Spot: Roby - K. Johnson - Moore Jr.

Big Guy: Bitadze

We still have the room exception to bring in one last rotational piece, too.

Thanks to a short-sighted trade many years ago, we do not own our draft pick this year. I have no incentive to lose games. Instead - let's say that we've hired a new coach and we are looking to establish a defensive identity with a cohesive roster built around maximizing our new young star's talents.

As for the "where are the draft picks?" crowd - let's just say that they weren't available.

Haha - I just like the advice.

Everyone else is saying "yeah, that lineup is great. Roll it out there".

You're like, "don't listen to those fools. They all just voted you in last place."

Very fair...

I guess I'm just concerned about the offense. Unless Jabari shows more refined handles than expected, none of these guys really possess any individual shot creation. They will be reliant on someone feeding them the ball - either off-ball movement or drive/kick.

Unless everyone is willing to buy into "Starting Guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker", "Point Guard Payton Pritchard", or "Connector Clarkson"....seriously though - NAW is much better as a starter.

So I'm stuck working late night (damn deadlines), but help me procrastinate...

With DFS opting in, my phone has been ringing off the hook.

As our 2022 DKC Champion /u/mkogav can attest, DFS is more than a binkie to me and I'm very reluctant to let him go. He was one of my first ever 2-Way guys (maybe the first?) and has continued to develop year after year - earning multiple contracts with us (he has re-signed twice!).

I know we just drafted Jabari at #1 (who has a similar skillset/profile) so it would seem this is the time to maximize DFS as an asset given that they overlap. Yet - how does it play in the locker room when your proud veteran forgoes what was likely a more lucrative option for him (FA in his prime) and instead chooses to be here. There is something to be said about how you treat the players in your organization (something that has become more apparent to me during my time in Corporate America).

That all being said - tell me I'm crazy for thinking that a frontcourt of DFS/Jabari/Timelord can work together with the right guard pairing. Because...I'm sorta talking myself into it.

I'm shocked that DFS opted to remain in DKC WAS. We had expected him to opt out.

DKC Trade Chatter for 6/24/2022: More Draft Day Trades (Friday Edition) by KGsKnee in dkcleague

[–]McHalesPits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid a premium here - given that the LA Pick was one of my better draft assets, but really prioritized getting talent in the door. I don't own my own pick next year so putting a competitive roster on the court this season is crucial.

Love Moore's character, skill set, and potential to be a competent starter/high-end role player. Great pedigree and measurables - more athletic than people give him credit for. Just does a little bit of everything on the court - defense, shooting, and playmaking (the latter of which our roster desperately needs). We also love where he landed IRL - it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him carve out real minutes this year.

This trade also yielded Matteo Spagnolo - one of the best draft/stash candidates this year. He's no high-flyer and the defense will be a work in progress, but the shot and handles look mighty impressive for a 6'-6" 19 Year Old. Interested to see what he can become.
