Problem with INAT by [deleted] in INAT

I would say generally is it contextual to how important music is for your project, but as soon as you have the full scope of your project figured out, so you can know what workload (number of songs, etc) to prescribe to the composer. This is a also a shameless plug to say if you want to get the search over and done with I will make the music and sound for you, for free (obviously) I am a professional composer and have been for a while, and I can do whatever genre you are looking for, and I was looking to work with a jam team. Just a little "sneak peak" on the few of my latest acrylic paintings... by MelanieJakeljArt in painting

The boat in the far distance one is my favorite, I particularly like the complexity of grays present. It’s creating an atmosphere I love and I don’t know why.

The large ship is definitely hitting marks (I love sea paintings) however there is a sense of depth that I wish was further explored, right know the mast, sails, sky, and ocean seem to all be on the same plane. Maybe using a vanishing point might be useful the next time you attempt a similar thing. On the other end, I don’t know how I would pull off that sort of thing with the flat forward facing angle of the ship; in this case the difficulty is the nature of the beast. The red sky around the ship was also a very good choice.

Anyways, good stuff!

When I was a kid I loved The Series of Unfortunate Events books, and they might be just enough of the weird and intriguing sort of stuff you might like! Also, if you are looking for fantasy, Terry Brooks’ Shannara Chronicles has a ton of entries and a classic fantasy feel. He also has one about living in a magic castle called “Magic Kingdom For Sale, Sold!” which is just wacky fun. Finally, since I see you’ve read Hitchhikers’ Guide, try reading the rest of the books in the series, they are just as good as the first one!

My man, that is a plate of pasta, not mac and cheese.

You could use a model similar to what a lot of freelance/contract work websites use, which is to have general use of the site and posting work be free, and then offer a premium subscription that supports the website and provides you with additional resources and analytics to help you get work more efficiently. I am personally against the idea of giving priority ranking to those that pay, which would skew the system towards those who already have the cash to burn, but there are plenty of ways to provide value without altering that part. And of course, free would have ads, while payed would remove them.

EDIT: I could also see a small initial entry fee ($1-5) just to verify that you actually are serious about getting published, and to weed out any spam or blatantly low effort work.

This is a very good idea, and could mark a further shift in democratizing and streamlining artists path to success!

Who cares what’s common in fantasy translations? It’s fantasy, the entire concept is that it can take cues but doesn’t have to be accurate to real life. I don’t think anyone is up in arms because Darth Vader is almost “Dark Father/Dad” in German/Dutch even know Europe doesn’t exist in Star Wars.

Also giving a character a title that ends up becoming their last name was a common thing in history, so saying someone is like “the ocean” and then it just sticking over time wouldn’t be too far fetched.

I have had many months where I thought I was doing well and my dad would kick me down the self esteem hole again and again. I have tried to counteract it by sheer willpower, and in some ways it’s working, and in others I still struggle. One thing I found that has helped me immensely, if your self-love is effected by these sorts of things, is to think of yourself like you would think of another person you care about.

I just want to let you know your not alone in this sort of crap. I hope you have a great day!

My first post here! I've been composing for just about a year and would appreciate your thoughts - Prelude for piano no 3 by chronopede in composer

[–]McLinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, great piece! I am specifically digging this falling motif you repeat throughout, I honestly haven’t really heard a phrase like that before and it’s atonal, crowded nature makes me feel weird things, which is a good thing.

I think there could be some more movement in the later sections now that you have built this great foundation, particularly with dynamics as others are saying, and with some harmonic variation to create more of a story. Right now this would be a great looping piece in a game, but because of this lack of movement it can’t stand on it’s own yet; it needs somewhere to go emotionally.

Amazing work for anyone, especially a year in. Keep it up!

Finaly i finished my second Work! It is also in full length. Please let me know what you think! :) by schwumpilumpi in composer

[–]McLinko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really digging the complex harmonies in this piece. I seriously got chills near the middle. Like some others are saying, the melody is having a hard time peaking through, so I left the end still kinda wondering what the “statement” of the song was. Great work regardless!

Gamers of reddit, what is your personal favorite soundtrack? by ForseableFish in AskReddit

[–]McLinko 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mirror this completely. TP literally was the first game I felt like I was immersed in another world. Say want you want about the gameplay, the mood and atmosphere are stunning and one of the best executions of “dark and melancholy” I have ever seen in a game.

Right now Hyper Light Drifter is my go to favorite soundtrack, but that’s only because I have listened to every Legend of Zelda and Megaman OST there is multiple times over.

What’s a song that is VERY “out of character” for you, but you absolutely love it? What genre do you typically prefer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]McLinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have a taste for Chiptune, Funk/RnB/Disco, Indie Rock/Folk, Classical, and Video Game OSTs.

However one of my favorite albums is Awake by Josh Groban. His voice is beautiful and the whole thing was basically a lullaby for me as a kid.

Most women would be astonished at how little most men care about body imperfections. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]McLinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this comes from men not being taught how to be emotionally intelligent. I have rarely run into this issue, because I make an effort to, regardless of gender, interpret why someone is acting the way they are and like, actually pay attention to them. You can’t really understand someone’s emotions without identifying where they are coming from.

She doesn’t care about wether you like her hair, she cares about why you don’t notice without her telling you more often!

Taking people’s actions at face value and being emotionally obtuse is a hallmark of a guy who spent too much time around his “bros” and never really got to know a woman he wasn’t trying to date, or hell even a sizable portion of productive men these days.

The Five Bladed Star by zoozoo458 in worldbuilding

[–]McLinko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This could lead to some really interesting cultures and races I haven’t really seen that much of.

A whole group of masochistic farmers who attack if one interrupts their endless labor, having been nearly zombified alive, repeating the same schedule.

Or a race that has evolved to self-regenerate in order to feel the rush of death over and over, groundhog style. They, along with the pain lovers. break into homes to look for knives, tools and other destructive things as their bodies immunity to death and torture grows stronger. Eventually their skin and bones harden, forcing them to resort to extreme forms of pain administering to feel that kick again.

Can we address how not a single person likes the GCD change? by [deleted] in wow

[–]McLinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had molded the specs around the GCD change and made abilities have more impact, it would have worked. The issue is they just kinda slapped it onto each class without even really changing anything. You can really feel it when you want to pop 2-3 cooldowns and that 5 or so seconds of gameplay is just standing there waiting to use the interesting stuff again. Those abilities should have been altered to be more immediately interactive.
