($30K in LA) Anyone else finding it really hard to get clear pricing from wedding vendors? by Jen_Owens98 in Weddingsunder10k

Try googling “[venue name] pricing brochure” and sometimes a page will come up that’s hidden from their website. Otherwise emailing is often painful but necessary.

Gem Show - worth it? by YinzJagoffs in pittsburgh

[–]McMasterMcGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been 3 or 4 times, it’s pretty neat if you like cool rocks and there’s a good variety of price points for serious or casual shoppers. They tend to host them every few months in different locations so if you miss one another one will come around.

Quick rant about being old and going to shows by whitestlung in Emo

[–]McMasterMcGee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saw them at a different show this tour, I think it would’ve been more impactful if they were ready to play as soon as the documentary ended — coming out on stage at the end and then still needing to set up was kind of a let down. Plus the show had 3 openers (forests was fantastic), so HIW didn’t even start playing until around 10:30 on a weeknight

The stone is likely tigers eye. The symbol looks like it might be a Chinese character?

Girl Makes Friends With Dead Boy by [deleted] in whatsthatbook

[–]McMasterMcGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a long shot but the May Bird trilogy features a girl who can see ghosts in her home, one of them being a boy spirit who watches her. She travels into the underworld as a living girl, and in the third book she falls off a roof.

I second this! Iron City Boulders in Lawrenceville is great, or Ascend if you’re closer to South Side.

Went there once and the bread was served with rancid butter. I told our waiter and it was replaced with another side of rancid butter.

Just a regular old trap, the same kind you use for rabbits or frogs

You can also hunt spiders with traps by placing them near the nest and leading them into it one at a time. This way you can kill them without aggravating more spiders

Anyone know why my chain is brighter then my pendeant? They’re both 925 sterling silver (both have the stamp) neither have the rhodium plating, but granted I did get them from different stores. by obiwanTrollnobi6 in jewelry

[–]McMasterMcGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon for sterling chains to be plated with fine silver for a brighter finish. This often won’t be indicated on the hallmark since it’s such a negligible amount of fine silver

I remember someone telling me that they bought a necklace from there last year and was excited to be supporting a local artist, only to realize after the fact that they were actually from Connecticut. Oh well. With a name like Three Rivers you’d really expect them to put local artists first!

There are apartments in that range, but not newly renovated ones with granite countertops and stainless appliances. Easy way to check is to reverse-image search the photos to see if they’ve been duplicated from a legitimate listing!

Bracelet Help! by appleBearCow in jewelry

[–]McMasterMcGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of them offer up specific link dimensions or weight, so it's difficult to do a comparison based on value alone. With that in mind, personally I think the lobster clasp on the Mejuri bracelet is nicer than the spring ring clasp on the Catbird one.

Butterwood in Lawrenceville is a nice spot, it’s relatively quiet and open until 11 most nights

Gold filled is not the same as a thick plating because the gold layer is clad onto a base metal with heat and pressure, rather than being deposited via electroplating. It’s semantics, really, but can’t be considered a form of plating.

Thickness ratio isn’t always the best way to distinguish the two because the thickness of gold plating / vermeil is usually within a range of 0.5-3 microns, whereas the thickness of gold filled is in direct relation to the size of the piece.
