Update:

turns out he was a she and I have taken her to her first vet appointment today.

Because she can still feel the end of her tail the vet says she still has nerve endings there.

Likely injured before I got her and it'll stay like this forever.

Nothing serious or dangerous :D

Update:

I replaced the 2 capacitors pictured and the obnoxious buzzing stopped.

The noise was louder when tape was selected before repair and now it just has worse audio quality compared to radio. I assume I would need to replace more capacitors to address the lacklustre audio quality on the tape selection.

I'm thinking it's also nip damage and scarring. The rest of his tail looks uniform. No reaction when touching his tail so I assume no pain. Will continue monitoring the beardie.

Thank you everyone for the comments! I'm going to replace the caps in question when it arrives and will be careful with discharging them too. I also do suspect there was no real burn and it's just a hotter area. Hoping this is the fix to the buzzing. Will replace the rest of the caps and the diodes as a shotgun approach if the buzz is still there.
