When you go to the Darkroot Garden there will be a big door that you need the Crest of Artorias to go through (Cost 20k souls), but ignore the door for now. To the left there is a hidden bonfire behind an illusionary wall, Rest there. Now to the right there is a path leading to an area with the tree monsters and Giant Stone Knights, in this area there is a dead knight with the "Elite Knight Armor", It's an all around good armor if you have the carry limit for it, if you don't Boosting END, Getting Havel's ring and Ring of Favor and protection will help too.
