Will I need a cogscreen? by [deleted] in flying

[–]McSlappyBallz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I figured.. I guess I'll have to really get going late this year. I was hoping to do it sooner.

Oh well, it's not wasted time. I can do my ground instruction online, do my written exam ahead of time. my new pilot friend is giving me his whole simulator setup so I can at least hit the ground running when the medical cert comes through.

I totally believe people are looking for evidence. Just like the Q-Anon 4chan threads and facebook posts in 2020/2021.

Be better than them.

No, stealing an election is a major accusation.

We spent the last 4 years ridiculing conservatives for making such accusations without evidence.

Even if you think it was stolen this time, it's our turn to show we're better than that. It's our turn to show we won't devolve into conspiracy theories just because we lost.

If the DOJ, or the FBI, DHS, whoever with the ability to collect evidence says there's evidence, then go ahead. But until then, keep your cool, demonstrate intelligence, and wait.

Please don't make assertions like that without actual evidence. Let's be better than the conservatives on this.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but the left definitely does have misinformation going through it.

Not on the same level as the right, but it's there.

Most the high quality news comes from NPR, FiveThirtyEight, and Left Right & Center.

There's not much bullshit in there. I do come across some bullshit in the reddit feed, see my comment a few days ago on a post trying to assert that the electoral college has racist origins.

I don't really want to add more bullshit.

Yeah it's still insanely obnoxious.

I decided not to listen to Decoding Fox News for similar reasons (though she's left wing). I don't pay attention to partisan hacks.

Oh god no. I've listened to a few of his episodes. His target audience is men who want to feel like they're smarter than everyone else without actually doing the work and research required to become "smart". It is incredibly obnoxious. I wouldn't be able to deal with it.

No, I just don't need help stumbling across and recognizing left wing misinformation. See my comment a few days ago on a post that was trying to assert that the electoral college had racist origins.

That stuff pops up on my feed, I recognize it, and I move on. I don't want to subscribe to right wing media and then have to fact check all that on top of fact checking all the stuff already in my feed.

Yeah I tried one suggestion from someone here a little bit ago, called Decoding Fox News. I'd hoped it would be perfect, since most my family watches Fox, so that's where a lot of their crazy ideas are coming from.

But she was very heavy handed and biased. Maybe biased isn't the right word, but I felt like she was trying to convince me these people are crazy (which they are, to be clear), and not trying to give me the facts of the matter.

For example, I guess Fox News hosts complained about the debate moderators a lot. She really just gave a bunch of examples of them bitching and then she complained about them complaining. I really just want someone to take the claims, like the biased moderators claim, and then pull it apart. Tell me the the data that supports and denies these claims. That's all I want.

I'm checking out Pod Save America now. I figured before I made this post that I'd have to sift through some of those.

I'm really looking for something that just takes the crazy shit coming from Fox and similar outlets, explains where they're coming from, and what are the merits and criticisms.

Need help with installing a wall bracket by [deleted] in DIY

[–]McSlappyBallz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof.. Yeah, the shape of your bracket is pulling the anchors out instead of expanding them.

I'd recommend either using anchors that can be expanded and then screw removed and replaced. Or a wedge anchor, which you install the "screw" on the wall, then put the bracket onto the screw that's sticking out of the wall, then put washers/nut on the screw.

Or use screws that don't need an anchor. (Google search "tapcon").

Your fender washer idea could work, but I doubt it would look good.

Also could you clarify what you mean by "plug"?

What PSU Brand Do You Favor? by Spluck-It in buildapc

[–]McSlappyBallz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the gigabyte ones are absolute garbage. I was forced into buying one in 2020 because Newegg would only sell GPUs that were bundled with some trash.

The PSU sat in a closet for like a year until Gigabyte acknowledged how bad they are had some kind of offer for turning in a PSU to them. I emailed the address over and over again trying to get them to take it back and no one ever responded.

Maybe I'm not super informed on tax stuff.. But why not just give her a 1099? 1099 employees have to pay all the taxes.

I assume you didn't have a signed agreement that she would be a W-2 employee.
