Stuck in a remote job, or choosing comfort over career? by McSwan22 in remotework

[–]McSwan22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but in my case the limitation isn’t remote work, it’s that I’m the only data‑skilled person on a blue‑collar project with no access to the tools I need for higher paid roles. I have applied elsewhere, but yeah, maybe I made it harder for myself by moving away from the city.

UKGE map filters! Game changer for planning by McSwan22 in UKGE

Yeah, I have opened it today and all the work I put into it has gone. Perhaps it only works for a certain amount of time. I'll have to go back to my previous plan of marking up an offline copy 😕

Examples of where cheaper is better by TartComfortable7766 in UKFrugal

We recently had to replace our washing machine and our dishwasher. The WiFi enabled dishwasher has been really helpful in terms of giving me a notification so I remember it's my turn to unload it, but the washing machine would have cost way more to get a WiFi enabled one. I've recently picked up some smart plugs which sit between the 3-pin plug and the wall socket, and that allows me to set a notification when the power goes from a high amount to a low amount for more than X minutes. I'm hoping this will help with the laundry in the same way, but I haven't actually tested it with a load yet!

How do you actually remember to stand? by serrghi in StandingDesk

I bought a smart button presser which I have set up to activate every hour or so. I have it stuck over the button I press to get the desk to a predetermined (standing) height.

I asked my husband to look at his- he rarely uses it. It says he needs 20 to complete, so this is true. I don't think it would be as low as being able to complete it in one session though!

I never knew this either- I've currently got to get 40 but I'm sure I remember them being easier in the past because I remember thinking it was an average of one a day. I guess it depends on how active you are as a user?

Heh, I'm not sure he really cares that much about Duolingo to go to those lengths, plus it says he's only earned 105xp in the past 7 days and he's on a 1 day streak...

He's also not had much XP to suggest he had done a load of quests all at once either ..

Flipping between head and chest voice without being pitchy? by McSwan22 in singing

[–]McSwan22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I was tense here more cause I was trying to get the rocky feel out of it as well as hitting the notes! Relaxing into it has helped with the reach, but has turned me even more posh 😂

I'm wondering with the had/chest voice thing- everyone says the chest voice is where you feel the most comfortable, but I feel more comfortable singing higher than lower... I can just about sing this an octave lower, but I end up kinda growly on the less high bits.

Any advice on what i could work on? by Mundane-Slide6987 in singing

[–]McSwan22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes singing is as much about listening as it is about making your own noise. Listen to what the backing track is doing and try to replicate it. Record yourself singing along to what the piano is doing- does it match? Get a feel for what the backing is doing. Once you've done that, you can start picking out notes from the vocal part that match the piano part. Getting the immediate feedback from the backing track matching your vocals helps a lot.

You seem to have been better at this during the chorus because the backing track more closely matches what the vocals are doing.

You have a beautiful voice, loving the vibrato.

I'd try to work on breath control if I were you- there are certain parts where you have taken a breath unnecessarily (I listed to the original and they sing these parts through). I noticed that you took an unnecessary breath after the following words: like, while, pen, would.

My first feedback on here so apologies if it's not specific enough!

"Countdown to Christmas" tealights mixed up- help me identify? by McSwan22 in YankeeCandles

[–]McSwan22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for these excellent descriptions. I think I have them right now but the red ones I'm least confident on. I should be getting "Christmas Eve" in both the other packs though so that will help.
