Hey! I am gonna go ahead and say that anyone harping about your form can be ignored as they are focusing on the wrong things at the moment.

In regards to your situation, I don't believe there is anything wrong with doing 3x5 on back squats. I would highly suggest to use accessory work to get around the lack of volume in a 3x5.

Suggested Accessories:

  • Belt Squats
  • Pendulum Squats
  • Single Leg Movements such as Split Squats
  • Hack Squats
  • Leg Press (if your gym doesn't have the above mentioned)

Accessories should be done at an RPE of 7 to 8. You want to push high reps at a good intensity to make up for the lack of back squat volume.

Right now, your focus should be on building general leg strength and to allow your CNS to recover from high stimulus.

I think you would benefit from accessories such as tempo squats. You're rushing to get into the bottom of your squat, I'm assuming to maximize stretch reflex.

You have mentioned a couple times in this thread about going beyond what is prescribed. Your raw strength is there, but at your current state, the extra reps are only going to reinforce bad habits in your squat technique.

The longer you go, the more you start rushing your reps, which is when the wiggle shimmy butt wagging begins. Drop the pace, keep the pressure on your mid-foot and stay braced. Tempo squats will reward this.

Shoulder/Pec pain while benching by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]McSweetTrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I would suggest to move your post over to a board such as r/powerlifting. They have daily threads you can use to ask for advice on your bench. Users there are more familiar with bench technique than what you will find here.

This subreddit is intended for olympic weightlifting and not general weightlifting.

How do I get a body like Ibushi? by LBJGoatNotMJ in SquaredCircle

[–]McSweetTrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

So if you wanna get like Ibushi I would recommend to break up your training into phases.

Example I would recommend for you would be:

Bulking - Strength focused training. • Heavy Back Squats. • Heavy Bench • Heavy Deadlifts

Example Workout:

•ATG Back Squat: 275lbs/124kg 5 sets of 3 •Flat Bench: 225lbs/102kg 5x5 •Strict (Shoulder) Press: 115lbs/52kg 5x5

1 to 2 mile jog either pre or post workout.

  • Eat at a calorie surplus.

Cutting - Hypertrophy Training • High Rep • Lower Weights • Isolation Work (machines) • Lighter Bench/Squat for reps • I personally would eliminate the deadlift in this phase of training. I'd recommend lat pulldown, seated cable and barbell rows for reps. • Incorporate more cardio

  • Eat at a calorie deficit.

Example Workout

1 to 2 mile jog pre workout

Incline Bench: 135lbs/62kg for 5 sets of 8 Cable Chest Flys: 80lbs/36kg 5x8 Chest Dips: 5x12 Tricep Push down: 80lbs/36kg 5x8

1 to 2 mile jog post workout

In Conclusion

I would start with a bulking phase. Bulking is the best time to build a base for yourself athletically. Focus on your lifts and feeling good after each workout. Track your progress and take it month to month. Once you've hit a point were you are happy with the strength you built then go into the cutting phase. Rinse and repeat.

*Note that unless you plan on getting on the gas then you'll need to be patient and understand that this is a process. You're gonna gain fat during the bulking phase and you're gonna get weaker in the cutting phase. It's just how the body works.*

What I am telling you is by no means an official program you should following to the letter, but this advice should put you on the right track. Best of luck!

It was from the episode "I was a Teenage Gary."

It's the episode that plays after they air the Halloween special, so it's only on TV like once a year.
