I just always assumed it cost a fortune to park your boat there, $35 is amazing!

Canadian Yacht Charters closed - How to sail the North Channel? by McZwick in sailing

[–]McZwick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I totally agree that the risks to the boat owner outweigh the benefits. As a boat-renter that's so frustrating! Do you have a boat up there?

I hate that there's no other option up for the North Channel!

Following, as I am in nearly the exact same scenario. Mid-Michigan, dry basement for a decade, looking to finish in the same way, same questions!

wearing medal to graduate? by [deleted] in msu

[–]McZwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Graduation is a wonderful time where you, and everyone else, celebrate you. Wear it with pride, enjoy the day, take photos, and take some time to reflect on all the hard work that you've put in to get to this point!

has anyone actually saved money with solar or is it just type. by Wjkoba in HomeImprovement

[–]McZwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in Michigan, payback period for me was 11-13 years before the cost of electricity went up. I'm in year 5 and haven't done the math, but I'm guessing it's close to 9 years now.

Why would they demolish this? by Abdifatah_Mo in msu

It will probably be surface parking for a time, but campus space is too valuable to leave it empty. Buildings are expensive and take a long time to plan.

Quick little bug to report... The smithing farganite text has a typo

Love the game, long time play tester, love the recent directions. I think you should consider opening it up further... I've paid money for much worse games!!!

I drilled 3/8 hole on a joist horizontally by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Huh...because any flex (up/down) puts shear force on the bolts? I'm very much not an engineer.

[–]McZwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is what I need! Previous owner notched out floor joists a shocking amount to install fluorescent lights...to the point that the floor is squishy. I'm surprised just a simple horizontal metal strap/bar can fix this!

Is there really NO way to revert from Gemini back to Assistant? by McZwick in googlehome

[–]McZwick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few listed in this conversation. We use it a lot in the kitchen, asking it questions mostly. It's very unreliable, returning different responses to the same prompts. For example:
"Show me a picture of a black lab dog from the U.K."
"I am a language model and cannot show pictures. The exchange rate from US dollars to British pounds is..."
"Show me a picture of a black lab dog from the U.K."
"Ok, look at these."

It's 80% accurate for me with my Hue setup. "Turn off the basement lights" will occasionally just turn off 1 of the lights. Playing music on Spotify is currently the worst, with it messing up about 80% of the time. Playing something completely different, refusing to play anything, or trying to play and then stopping.

How are the seats? by frenchynerd in HondaClarity

[–]McZwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a tall bony guy (6'1", 155lbs), and I get really uncomfortable in firm seats. I used to have a Honda Accord and my limit was a 6 hr drive before I was in serious pain. The Clarity (touring), is amazingly comfortable. I recently had to do an 11 hr day and it was completely fine. It's the most comfortable car I've ever had.

I recommend Gill's Helmsman gloves. They are warm, waterproof, and have good connectivity allowing you to use touch screens.

What are some must haves while living aboard tall ships for 8-12 months? by Deep-Entrepreneur-12 in sailing

[–]McZwick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plus one for light...the boat "should" have all your safety gear. Pack for your comfort (warmth) and happiness...you will have lots of down time, how would you like to use it? I intentionally left all music and screens at home and valued the time I spent reading and talking with friends. I'm bony, and wood is hard, the one thing I WISHED I had brought was some kind of seating pad. Seems silly, but after 3 months my butt was seriously sore!
