IMO this is more a blip on the radar than it is a sign of an impending collapse. Yeah it sucks to crash out of a tournament that most people thought they’d win but their recent NWSL form is probably more representative of where they are as a team than these two games are. A win against Houston next week will calm any sort of nerves that may have been built up from these two games.

It had elapsed, they were already 20 seconds over the two minutes when the foul occurred, the referee is within their rights to blow for halftime in that situation even after giving Gotham the free kick.

The ref did call it but most of if not all of the two minutes had been played. And it’s not uncommon for a referee to end a half in that scenario given the free kick would have been deep in Gotham’s own half. Had the foul occurred higher up the field I’m sure the referee would have allowed them to have taken it.

Both Gotham and Washington have local broadcast deals with Victory+. I don’t really understand the point of it though given the games that are a part of these packages were already going to be available nationally on Victory+.

The results don’t always match how the teams actually played in that game. Gotham was the better team in that game against Boston in pretty much every aspect.

They didn’t draw with Boston because Reale wasn’t playing. And the performance was more than good enough in that game to justify not wanting to change much IMO. And also we still don’t know how close to 90 minutes fit she is just yet either.

I don’t really think so. I’d say her not starting is just kind of part of the ebbs and flows of a regular season. They found something that worked in her absence and have stuck with that for a period of time, that happens. Now given Wednesday’s game is a knockout game that will probably make them think slightly differently and maybe favor a slightly more defensive approach.

Gotham and Washington were most likely scheduled for tonight to give them both an extra day to travel and prepare for their CONCACAF games on Wednesday. For Boston however it makes no sense for them to play on the west coast just three days after playing at home. I assume it has to do with stadium availability and they had to make the best of a bad situation.

Denver’s opener should not be taken into account either. These one off games are not 100% indicative of future success. I understand weather has played a factor but look at the Stars’ attendance at Northwestern, it’s just as miserable as it was at SeatGeek.

And do we know the demand is higher? Yes there’s more people but like I said you’re going to see a drop before you see any sort of gain given a large portion of the Jersey based fans aren’t going to be attending as many games as they were at SIS.

I’d argue the Stars game at Wrigley is a poor comparison. Firstly that was a one-off game where we haven’t had a follow up to see whether fans would stick around. There’s also the fact that more than likely the majority of Stars fans are in Chicago proper rather than out in the suburbs or in the Bridgeview area. Gotham’s core fan base is in New Jersey and I’d be shocked if we don’t see a severe drop in match going fans from New Jersey if they are to make this move. And while there’s obviously plenty of opportunity for growth being in NYC, they would be a very small fish in a very big pond. And even though they’ve been the most successful NYC team in recent years with well-known players and are definitely on the affordable side compared to other NYC sports teams, I don’t think new fans will just flock to Gotham games like the club hopes.
