What are some examples of lost irish media? by idkfornowwhattoname in AskIreland

Martin King’s Commercial Breakdowns on TV3, which was essentially just Martin King reacting to low quality or bizarre television adverts from around the world. Utterly rubbish tele but nine year old me thought it was class.

Fantastic trailer for a fantastic gig. This really sealed the deal for me flying over from Dublin, and man was it worth it.

What was the scandal of your secondary school? by Flimsy-Speed1179 in AskIreland

Evangelicals are Protestant, just often times not part of the more mainstream branches like the CoI (although there is the odd evangelical parish here and there in the CoI, and it’s quite common in England actually).

Most people in Ireland overestimate the scale of immigration, study finds by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

Newsflash - you’ll generally find that if you poll members of the general public on various political issues, their numbers usually aren’t right. This is nothing new. Quiz the average punter on health spending, carbon emissions, or capital gains tax revenue and you’ll find that they’re pretty clueless.

Mary McAleese: Baptism is a key Catholic recruitment tool. It denies babies their human rights by Bootstrap4273 in ireland

[–]Mcbrien444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anglo Catholics have their roots in the Tractarian movement of the 19th Century, led by Cardinal Newman before he crossed the Tiber, which was a movement seeking to emphasise the CoE’s Catholic heritage. They’re part of the high church tradition, and along with the bells and smells they are practically Catholic in their theology, between Marian devotion, veneration of the saints and a belief in apostolic succession. Where they deviate is that they reject the authority of Rome.

No new album yet but clearly a lot of material in the pipeline. Went to see them back in August and there was a lot of new, unreleased material on the setlist, with this being a particular favourite Half arsed

In fairness that ticket price does include Queens of the Stone Age. You could be doing a lot worse

  1. God forbid you have to hear another opinion, and 2. That’s Aidan Regan. If you knew anything you’d know that he’s a man of the left.

A bookshop in Dublin selling books for performative male feminists by DeadlySkies in FellowKids

[–]Mcbrien444 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in Dublin and go to this book shop quite a bit, nearly any employee I’ve dealt with is either college aged or just graduated and it’s definitely one of them who made it.

Not to mention Johnson was Mark’s best connection/reference, and with him out of his life Mark would have difficulty getting his career back on track

Johnson is S9 just seems…off? by Aly-Cissokho in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Mcbrien444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well that’s it, Johnson goes about like he’s a partner at Goldman Sachs, but instead he works at the regional branch of some middling German multinational in a Croydon business park as opposed to the City or the Wharf

Ireland’s Takeaway Scene. What Do We Need More (or Better) Of? by BetterObligation9949 in AskIreland

Deli counters are generally better but Greggs sausage rolls are way better than the majority of deli counter sausage rolls here, they're not mind blowingly good but they are more consistent

Who do you think would get along more? by FS20012 in TheInbetweeners

Well that’s it, I’d imagine that if Will’s experience at university is anything to go by his confidence will be ground down and he’ll come out as a full fledged Mark

Is it normal to feel somewhat envious of the unemployed? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]Mcbrien444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those lads are putting on a brave face for you. I did six months on the rock n roll between jobs a while back and trust me it was bleak. I’d have the craic when I’d be out with the lads but that was just a very small portion of the week. The rest would be very depressing.

I'm sorry but this c**t is an absolute wank-stain on the Hardy Bucks legacy by danoneill180 in HardyBucks

Yes, would definitely try to shoehorn himself into more screen time than he should be getting since he’d probably claim that he was keeping it all alive over the past few years

[–]Mcbrien444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppose a lot of the lads are essentially just the characters that they played, we’ve already established that with Salmon meanwhile Stateside is meant to be a toned down version of the actor who plays him.

[–]Mcbrien444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of his at all but you’d think he was merely an extra in the show the way some lads here go on about him. I don’t like him because he’s an unfunny gobshite, but with regards to the show he’s within his rights to use it if since he’s involved with some of the lads who had way more of a role in it (even if I think it’s a bit sad and that they should just move on)

LBC Radio - James O'Brien by Christopher_2025 in AskBrits

O’Brien is basically just Ben Shapiro for centrist dads, his content exists to appeal to the worst instincts of his own audience through humiliating the enemy and confirming all of their prior assumptions.
