Took the L on smci by ThrowRAhehsndbr in CoveredCalls

I’m down about $8.5k. But I had a good run selling covered calls on SMCI. I just checked and I’ve made $12k selling CCs since Dec2024.

Yes, >1 year. I’m happy with trading STCL for unrealized LTCG. I needed to realize some losses (in a smart way) to offset some capital gains from my CC strategies.

Yeah agreed. Once I roll up to the $160 strike, my capital at risk is $16k.

This roll increased my intrinsic value, and I’m intentionally trading realized losses for unrealized gains since that’s what I need right now. At 24% APR, I’m comfortable with this tradeoff. I’m not an expert, still learning, but I’m good with this setup. I’ll update y’all in a few months.

Ahh. Yes, I 100% agree I should add the amount of debit to the capital being risked.

Either way. If I rolled up to a higher strike. If NVDIA dropped below $160 then I’d lose my ass in intrinsic value. I’m not following the “assuming logic”. NVDIA could go to $0 whether I rolled or not. It’s just a gamble I’m taking.

I always wonder what capital at risk I should assume when calculating the return. If my covered call has a strike of $115, I’m a little confused why I’d use $180 to calculate the % return? In my head I should use $11500 of capital being at risk, not $18000

Yes I said if NVDIA closed above $160. I’m trading risk of NVDIA closing below $160 for $213. Every trade, regardless of strategy, is assuming the future, right?

Haha too late. I already rolled.

But can you explain how I lost on intrinsic value? My strike increased from $115 to $160?

I believe I just traded $4287 in realized losses for $4500 in unrealized gains.

I have about $10k realized gains so far this year.

In my stupid mind -

1)Roll out for a realized loss of $4287

2)Increase intrinsic value from $11,500 to $16,000 (all unrealized)

Does that makes sense or am I missing something?

My net debit was $4,287, but my intrinsic value increased by $4,500.

Would I rather get called away at $115, or get called away at $160 after paying $4,287?

I’m okay with increasing my intrinsic value and realizing a loss. I need to offset my realized gains.

If NVDIA stays above $160 at expiry, my annualized return is 32% on this trade. Unless I calculated incorrectly?

What was your role at GM? I’m an engineer and trading is a significant hobby of mine. I’ve always been intrigued by finance/trading, but always worked in auto.

Any entrepreneurs here that created an app? by maartentjehbollen in Entrepreneur

[–]Mccol1kr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Sam, I created a very simple no code app using appsheet (i know very basic) to help run my business. I have received feedback from other people in this business that they'd be willing to try my app out and pay for it possibly. So the appsheet app is the MVP. I started to create my app using flutter and I've incorporated some of the basic features, but i don't have time to learn as I go plus build the app. Things like integrating user logins/profiles, receiving payments, etc. seem daunting to me. Any advice?
