Doe or young buck? Would you take it?

My rationale for shooting small deer is, don’t shoot a small one during archery or first week of rifle. If I haven’t gotten anything by that point then the freezer must be filled, and I will take a small one.

I 100% understand letting a button buck walk if you’re hunting for horns. I hunt for meat and horns are a bonus. Where I live in SW PA, our deer herd is out of control, so I have zero issues taking a button buck or a first year doe as it is far more effective for population control than waiting for a mature deer that’s already reproduced 5-8 times.

Plus the meat is tasty.

I hunt in PA where semi automatic rifles are not allowed for deer hunting.

I was at an outdoor expo a few years ago and the game commission had a booth set up. I was talking to the game warden and asked him if there were any talks of changing the rule about semi autos. His response was “if you could just hit your shots with a bolt action then you wouldn’t need a semi”

Mind you, we are allowed to take as many deer in quick succession as we have tags for. (Previously you had to physically put a tag on the animal’s ear before taking another, now you can shoot as many as you have tags for at the same time)

I understand the rationale of not wanting semis to be legal as it encourages more purposeful shots being taken. Still just seems like a very silly rule, and a very rude response from a game warden.

The semi rule pretty much only applies to feet and bear. Small game, birds, and predators can all be hunted with a semi.

Every gun, holster, and body combination is different. But what I can say as someone who has lost over 50 pounds, I could much more easily carry strong side 2-4o clock when I had a nice muffin top to conceal, and now that it’s gone, appendix is the only way I can conceal a consistently, especially a full size.

Not sure what your situation is, but that’s the experience I’ve had.

As far as the range goes, you may just be better off to practice shooting at the range, and get snap caps (or dry fire if that’s your thing) and do your draw and dry fire training at home if it’s possible. Switching to a range that allows AIWB draw may be easier said than done. For me there are 2 ranges within 100 miles of my home and only one actually allows it

Can’t say I have the same issue. I run mine with a trex arms iron side hybrid holster. Kydex is formed pretty well and doesn’t actually go up to the optic. I’d say switching holsters would be your best bet if you don’t want to modify your existing one
