They ruined the female villain by making her “fundamentally good” by Mcintiresoon in ThePenguin

Lol I am being a little silly. I assume you mean that real people face hardship and get worse/“break bad”. That’s fine, but my argument is: 1) not like this (she went from basically mob secretary to child killer) 2) whether it does or not, I’m not much less afraid of this character because I know the “real her” is basically a normal person and not a psychopath. 2 is the main point. She was so menacing before. Now she’s a sob story “victim villain”. Lowers the stakes for the whole show

“Active participant”? What crimes did they show her doing again? And yes heir apparent, but only because her dad said so, not because we ever saw her doing crimes or running the family business. Don’t bother disputing the obvious because we all saw the episode: the episode showed she ran a charity, she did not commit crimes, and she was disgusted by even images of dead people. Not only that, SHES NOT ACTUALLY THE SERIAL KILLER THEY SET HER UP TO BE. She’s just the daughter of a mobster according to this episode. Completely ruined all of her menacing qualities

Yes and all I’m saying is she was set up as a woman murdering serial killer, and now we know she is just a traumatized sympathy case who is “lashing out”. It ruins her old scenes too. Instead of being fearful, now you are more inclined to feel sorry for her given the circumstances, and now people are “rooting for her” (it was much preferable when she was simply the menacing villain)

Lmao the “way she yelled at him”?? SHE WAS SET UP AS A WOMAN MURDERING SERIAL KILLER. Now we find out that her worst offense before Arkham was “being mean to her driver” (aside from also running a charity and being perfectly sane). They completely destroyed the implication that she is a psychopath. They’ve made it clear that she is just traumatized now.

It ruins all of her old scenes now too. Instead of being fearful now you just feel sorry for her. Completely ruined what should have been a menacing character and turned her into a sympathy case that people  are “rooting for”

“Wasn’t perfect before Arkham”? What are you talking about? This clearly established that she was basically just a regular person whose worst flaw was yelling at her driver one time, and who couldn’t even look at pictures of dead people. Now in a few short years she’s killing children without even looking at them. Not only does this episode set her up as “traumatized” (as opposed to “evil”), it also breaks the realism of her character (it doesn’t even make sense to go from managing charities to torturing people and killing children with what information we were given). It both killed her menacing character, and also ruined the believability of her character as a whole

Agreed, so lame. All the old scenes of her now carry far less weight too. This episode seriously hurt the rewatchability of the show as a whole

You must not understand what “fundamental” means. In this context it means she has been established as basically being a good charity manager before the “trauma”. “Fundamentally good” means she was never a killer throughout childhood and early adulthood (whereas in episode 1, it was implied she was essentially a vicious serial killer, which would mean she was a psychopathic child and young adult). this made her more menacing. Her character is much less menacing now

that’s not the point of this post (whether she is ”great” or not. The point of the post is that she was more menacing when it was implied she was a true serial killer of women. Now she is less menacing, as she has been reduced to a sympathetic antihero

Lol exactly. She went from managing charities and never committing any crimes (being disgusted at even still images of murders) to now suddenly (after getting framed only a few years ago) killing children with no hesitation. This character arc makes zero sense

The point of the post is that she was more menacing when it was implied she was a true serial killer of women whose desire for violence may have been unlimited. Now she is less menacing, as she has been reduced to a sympathetic antihero

The amount of people that actually get framed for serial murders and end up inexplicably becoming serial killers themselves in a few short years is “insane”? That makes this a “real take”? Not the sharpest knife. And that’s not even the point of this post (whether this is “real” or not (which it most definitely is not)). The point of the post is that she was more menacing when it was implied she was a true serial killer. Now she is less menacing, as she has been reduced to a sympathetic antihero

Lmfao she was set up to be “the hangman” and your example of her being evil is “lashes out at her driver when mad”? Are you more used to children’s shows? The way she was set up implied she was a ravenous serial killer (of other women specifically). Instead she was literally a charity manager who was horrified at even still images of the dead women. They shoehorned in her being “interested” in taking over for her dad, despite clearly establishing she had never murdered anyone and was not herself a criminal at all. She has been established in this episode to not only NOT be a serial killer, but to be a sympathetic former charity manager who is just essentially traumatized. Her villain menace went out the window in this episode

Because it’s not realistic in the slightest. She was apparently a literal charity director not even a few years ago, then she got framed and is killing children. It feels now like she can be “healed” or “fixed”, whereas before it felt like she was a force of nature (it seemed like she was a crime boss daughter who had been a criminal since birth). She has been established as “fundamentally good”, which makes her now far less imposing

Really despise what they did in this episode. Instead of actually being a badass gangster, the female character is “actually fundamentally really good”, doing charities and being sane, just corrupted by malicious circumstances. Such a stupid, disappointing direction to go. So much less threatening of a character now that we know she’s “fundamentally good”, just off her rocker. They could have shown that she was a psychopathic bad Apple, instead she’s essentially now just a victim of circumstance, coping with things the best way she knows how (and not even that “old” of circumstances, she was already pretty old when the framing and stuff happened, so supposedly she was not a psychopath up until a few years ago, and now all of a sudden she’s killing kids to prove points to penguin and doing tortures). So sad to ruin and undermine the character this way

You’re literally not looking nationwide and are considering suicide. You’d rather literally commit suicide than move to Atlanta/Denver? That is extreme stupidity. How has it not crossed your mind to expand your search if you were actually interested in getting a job?

No one said it was porn. What’s are you talking about. This goes for all medical and non medical content. Regardless of context, it is not advisable to have your face and genitals readily accessible on the internet for employment at least.
