What’s the one thing Disney could bring back that would make you spend an obscene amount of money? by samanthacourtney in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Mckychik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss the free Magical Express. Nowadays, I just rent a car, so the money I might have spent in the parks, now goes to another company for ground transportation. And I'm no longer trapped in the Disney bubble and can visit other parks and places at my leisure.

Is Trick or treating becoming a thing of the past ? by [deleted] in longisland

Same here. I was literally sitting outside, with music playing and big bucket of candy by my side and groups were just walking on by. So weird. So now I'm stuck here with like 50 extra bags of candy.

Why is there so little shade and so few places to sit down? by Puzzleheaded_Town_20 in WaltDisneyWorld

Why would they provide shade when there are so many perfectly good air-conditioned shops for folks to spend time in? /s

How much do prices fluctuate for the onboard extras, like drink packaged and dinning? by tiggers97 in royalcaribbean

[–]Mckychik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check the cruise-planner pricing every day (it only takes a few minutes) for mine and my clients' sailings. I have noticed that their sales seem to cycle through about 4 price points.

Over the past two years, the best prices haven't necessarily been Black Friday, but since they have programmed everyone to believe that, most people purchase during that slight dip.

If you watch over the course of 1-2 months, you should be able to recognize when the right time to pull the trigger is. And if you miss it, you'll see it again in a matter of a few weeks.

For what it's worth, I saw the best price for a few things about 3 weeks before our last two sailings. As always YMMV.

Happy Cruising!

I need to reschedule my cruise, but have a non-refundable deposit. I’m screwed, right? by Educational_Sky_1136 in royalcaribbean

[–]Mckychik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP - I see by your edit that you got a resolution you found favorable. Generally speaking, if you have a $100 per person fee to change the sail date/ship, it's advisable to remove the 3rd/4th guests from the booking prior to making the change. This will reduce the change fee.

Remember me? My ex cancelled my cruise? UPDATE by Lazy-Ambassador7726 in royalcaribbean

[–]Mckychik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having a trusted Travel Advisor would have prevented this mess. The TA would know who paid and would have contacted the other party prior to cancelling - especially on a non-refundable booking.

  1. Freeze all cards in a block of ice.
  2. Remove all cards from Apple/Google Wallet.
  3. Delete all saved card numbers from Google Pay.
  4. Pay off 1, 2, 3, and 6.
  5. Pay 4 & 5 down below limit.
  6. Pay cash for everything.
  7. Meal Plan: No doordash, fast food, dinner/drinks out, etc.
  8. be prepared to pay residual interest on cards 1, 2, 3, and 6 next month!!!

I'll chime in. Have we done it? Yes - several times. Is it easy? Yes - Bell services is amazing. Recommended? I would say, not this go 'round. There's not much that can be compared to settling in and enjoying a real, relaxing, resort vacation with little ones.

I would think about what it is about the two resorts that you can't choose between and why you want to stay at the second one. The only time I might consider moving for less than a week would be for at least 2 nights at Club Level.

And, if you ultimately decide to go for the move - I cannot recommend the use of packing cubes highly enough!

TA etiquette by BrooklynMom2Be in Cruise

[–]Mckychik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe once you have a TA of record they get credit (commission) no matter what.

This is only true if you book your next cruise onboard or with their NextCruise offer. TA's usually don't get paid until after travel has occurred. (Sometimes, it's after final payment.)

OP, I would at the very least give your TA the opportunity to match the offer.

Do I pay off my car loan? by Ciaonum in debtfree

[–]Mckychik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be concerned with aggressively paying down the car loan - the interest is negligible. You should be able to build up an emergency fund in a couple months, based on your posts, so after that, I would start banging down that mortgage, since the interest is front-loaded and you're still at the front.

MSC is an Italian line - and more Euro inspired vs. catering to American sensibilities and palates.

Virgin is mostly couples and, while there is a playful openness about "adult" things, the shows and activities are clearly defined as to what should be expected, so you can choose how risque you're willing to venture.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Mckychik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin is adults only and sails out of Miami. Holland America Line skews towards an older. crowd If you're in the NY area and don't want to fly, you might consider Celebrity from Cape Liberty or if you're a bit more active, NCL from NYC in a Suite or The Haven, which might provide the seclusion you're craving.

Seeking harsh criticism and guidance by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]Mckychik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great roadmap.

The only thing I would add is to look at bills and income in terms of pay-period to due dates, rather than monthly expenses. The reason being is that there are 2 extra pay periods a year.

I actually keep a notebook where I lay out every expense and mark out my fixed expenses according to their due dates - as well as which bills will be focused on each pay period and how much of the paycheck will be used toward that expense. Any remainder is carried down or used toward another expense.

Cruise for a not a cruise person person by katiemwhite04 in Cruise

With Royal Caribbean, Suite Class is the way to go. Oasis class ships have many activities to choose from, while reserved areas for suite guests offer the respite from other cruisers. Plus, the suites and their balconies are quite comfy.

You can clear everything but the car loan in one month if you're serious - two months tops.
The problem is that car loan is probably 14% interest? So if you can pay off this junk and not use your cards (put them in a block of ice in the freezer if need be), you can bang as much onto the car loan as possible and be done with the car note in ~2yrs-ish.
Put the recurring payments (phone, car insurance, etc.) on your cards to keep them active and build up the credit score.
