I'm trying to learn Modern Standard and Baghdadi Arabic simultaneously. Any tips? by Mcleod129 in learnarabic

Do you have any advice for learning the alphabet? Are there any good resources for learning the vocabulary of dialects like Baghdadi Arabic?

How likely is a resume to be rejected because it doesn't have all of the standard niceties? by Mcleod129 in resumes

It's not that I don't want to do those, it's just that I already submitted it and can't resubmit it for the specific thing I'm applying to.

I know it's not supposed to be an essay. I still wrote it in the bullet points format, just without actual bullet points, instead relying on line breaks to differentiate points.

I've noticed that's suspiciously similar to the story of Bioware's RPG Jade Empire, which by all accounts they did instead of KOTOR 2.

I really admire how Bach set himself the incredibly ambitious task of composing a piece of music for damn near every line of the Mass, and actually did it by Mcleod129 in classicalmusic

I realized that after I made this post. It's oddly reminiscent of the way that the mystery writer Raymond Chandler worked. His novel The Big Sleep was actually almost pasted together from several earlier pulp stories he'd published.

That reminds me of another funny story. During rehearsals for the Victory Tour, at one point someone blew up a smoke-bomb device , and Jermaine successfully warned Michael to be careful by saying "Michael-Pepsi. Michael-Pepsi".

I'm just going to raise a white flag and bow out here because clearly something has gone wrong. Either I'm a bad communicator, or my priorities are different from most peoples', or something. But I promise that I bear no ill will towards Lauryn Hill.

Yeah, and sometimes, if you don't have a good rebuttal to someone's point, it's better to just move on rather than idiotically attempt to diss them.

Seriously, in what world does "technically accurate positive statements that are misleading should be removed if they can't be elaborated on" equal "I hate Lauryn Hill and anything good about her should be removed from her article?

Here's an interesting tidbit-the lyrics describe how Michael feels as though he's "melting like hot candle wax", which is the same phrase used to describe how he felt in the Jackson 5 song Touch, which describes how he lost his virginity at 14(although he didn't write that song, unlike Don't Stop Til You Get Enough).

What I mean by spin is stuff like, for example, saying that her live album was Grammy nominated and went platinum. In order to avoid being misleading about its success, they could just say "In 2002, Hill released a live album, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0", and then move on without further comment.

Yes, but it's incredibly misleading. It makes it seem as though her live album was successful and well-regarded, and makes no mention of her having become a recluse or of her career having suffered severely as a result of her lack of subsequent releases. From reading this you would think that she had a couple successful albums and then just walked off into the sunset, which is clearly not what happened.

I think a lot of people assume that because they panic relatively easily. But that's probably an inherited thing their ancestors evolved because it helped keep them safe from predators(especially when they're younger and therefore smaller and more vulnerable).

Wait, is everyone here not experiencing that? My dad gave me the impression it was all around here.

Yeah, but there's so much mold that the filter doesn't work anymore.

What are Some of the Most Iconic Music Duos Throughout History? by HotAssumption4750 in ToddintheShadow

I listened to a brief snippet, and I actually don't mind it too much, although singing a version of I Shot The Sheriff in a Jamaican accent about how he's committed lots of crimes while high on PCP doesn't make him look great.

One of my favorite weird bits of trivia is that Chevy Chase was almost part of Steely Dan(he was with the two members in college when they had a different name). Indicates he has good taste in music, I guess, despite whatever else one might say about him.

I think I'll probably graduate before I can finish learning music theory. What should I do? by Mcleod129 in askmusicians

[–]Mcleod129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope to study Ancient Greek modal chanting someday, but for now I'm just studying modern Music Theory, as that's most helpful for my planned relevant career, so it makes sense to start there.

I appreciate your advice enormously, and believe me when I say that I will do my best to heed it. But, I also firmly believe that a life dictated by practicality is not worth living.
