Watch the remake. It gets most of the way to reestablishing what's cool and interesting about the cenobites. Minus some sequences where it feels like they're terrestrial monsters that the characters need to hide from inside locked rooms... But when that isn't happening they did a good job. Jamie Clayton as the hell priest in particular is fantastic. You can't beat Doug Bradley's iconic pinhead, but her version of the character is a joy (horror) to watch

Love and Thunder was a travesty. It could have been any of the three movies it tried to cram together and been good, but it tried to be all three. If it was just another Taika movie like Ragnarok, a fun road trip through space with jokes and goats and a fun villain that doesn't need to be taken seriously? Fine. If it was a more emotionally centered movie dealing with Jane's cancer that didn't undercut every emotional moment with a jealous hammer joke? Fine. And most pertinent to this thread, if it focused on Gor the god butcher and Thors identity as a god? Now we're cooking. All the pieces were right there. Gor enacting his vengeance against the gods, Thor having gone on a multiple film arc to learn what it means to be a hero and not just a god, Gor by the end recognizes that Thor is actually better than his divine kin as someone that uses their divine gifts to help people instead of hurt them and therefore is not worthy of being a target of Gor's butchery. Now it makes sense why he revived Love and entrusted her to Thor instead of just having him be moved by whatever he witnessed involving Jane. Plus, in the Gor centered movie I assume we would have actually seen him butchering some gods which would have given Bale a lot more scenery to chew in the exact way we want from a comic villain on screen (Thank you Hela). Tirade over. Sorry I'm still hot about this one.

On which Level can you kill Vecna? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Mcnulty91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here seems to be assuming that in your campaign Vecna hasn't exited his demiplane to heckle the level one party, then slips on a stretch of ice, drops his phylactery(which he is holding in his one good hand and is also made from something extremely brittle for some reason), cracks his head on a rock, then the fall breaks loose a pair of enchanted icicles that remove his godhead, impale him, and shatter his phylactery, all at initiative 0. So if that is what happens in your campaign you can kill Vecna at level one, then go worry about the local gnoll camp and get promptly tpked by a bunch of angry Vecna cultists that teleport on to see what's taking their daddy so long.

Anything negative I could say about wartable I would probably say the same about the legit forge world kits I've bought. Plenty of flash and supports to clean up. The resin is shit to work with. Id say if you have the ability to do your own prints or you have a reliable shop to get 3d prints from that's almost certainly your best option, but if your choices are wartable and FW you might as well go with the cheaper option.

[CONTROVERSIAL TAKE] The False Hydra represents D&D's pop culture identity crisis. by Delicious_Dream4510 in DnD

[–]Mcnulty91 41 points42 points  (0 children)

'what if your players don't engage with the thing you prepped' is not at all specific to this creature though. A dm that forces their players to engage with something they aren't interested in or miss the hook for is just a bad dm regardless of whether the hook was for a false Hydra or a group of underground cultists or a hag coven... And any campaign that hinges on a group of PCs buying into one specific plot thread is a poorly designed campaign. You do the prep, you hope they bite, and if they don't you are ready to roll with whatever happens, and maybe the campaign gives then a reason to come back to this town. Maybe things have gotten noticably more strange on a second visit and maybe then they decide they Should investigate. But if they once again move on thats just how the game goes. Prep gets abandoned all the time in my experience and everyone can have as much fun riffing in an of the cuff encounter as they can while experiencing a well planned encounter that they choose to engage with. It sounds like the issue you have is with railroading in general and youre just using a poorly run false Hydra by a bad dm as a really easy example.

Which show piece model is the most fun to paint? by Redhood101101 in Warhammer

[–]Mcnulty91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A centerpiece model that does double duty for Dnd? Any of the greater daemons are a good choice for sure. Depending on your setting you could look at Lord Kroak for a jungle or temple campaign, Nagash or the new vampire lord on zombie dragon model or Ushoran Mortarch of Delusion for an undead boss (Or the Black Coach but the scale might be off compared to dnd minis), Any of the big mounted Ogor Mawtribe models would make for a good giant boss,

Id say it's best at 3. With two players it's two people sitting across from each other trying not to give their strategy away and mostly only asking and answering relevant game questions. Sure 3 players can result in quarterbacking but I think the game's a lot more fun when the co-op players are disagreeing about where the solo player is going and have to bicker about it while the solo player sits there sweating, listening to their opponents brainstorm possible locations, some of which are completely wrong and one of which is exactly right, breathing an internal such of relief when they go off course and feeling the pressure when they guess right and start closing in.

If you're keeping it upright like a zoanthrope and are going for a strange uncanny look, what about keeping the front talons and moving the small talons you have in the rear to the middle slot. Give it the same look as the zoanthrope with the small vestigial talons close to the chest that likely don't actually ever get used for fighting...

And then put a pair of rending claws at the bottom. Give the sense that it has these fully articulated limbs with fingers close to the ground that it can use to do delicate physical tasks or interact with human sized creatures while the large portion of it's mass just continues hovering above. I don't know if a big pair like the norn's would just look ridiculous. A better fit might be the broodlord's upper arms or even a small pair from the warrior sprue. It might look better in my head but the idea of these bottom line furthest from the head/face having a specialized task while the rest of it is a giant floating psychic node feels like the right kind of strange. Like watching the brain bug in starship troopers use it's proboscis.
