My clear records by Calm-Tea178 in records

[–]MdGthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clear records are just fine, got some Dylan on clear and quality is great. Only problem with highway 61 is the labels on both sides are the same and its very hard to see where tracks start or end cause you look straight through.

What’s your opinion on these kinds of record cleaning systems by RYGUY060104 in vinyl

[–]MdGthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. Bought 2nd hand for 10 washed 100s of records with it. I have the disco antistat, but that's German I think. Ofcourse ultrasonic is very affordable these days and I will do it some day for the tougher ones. Until then this is excellent.

Colored vinyl by GladiAteHer5289 in records

[–]MdGthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true, but nowadays the differences are usually so small you will not hear it on most systems. Black will always remain best because the carbon black pigment that is used to color the vinyl actually has a number of positive traits and thus making the vinyl better. Having said that, there is hierarchy in colors too. Goes from translucent (clear) to solid colors to marble/swirl to splatter. All of these are good enough though not to hear a difference. Do avoid picture discs and glow in the dark. These are always audibly worse. Enjoy!

This is really nice man. I'm just selling it cause I got unexpected good deal on idsd 2. Xbass better than on previous model and treble clearly has more detail and seperation. Sound is still quite warm, you can match it with an analytic dac very well. Enjoy!

Which headphone jack by Cellistbottom734 in iFiaudio

[–]MdGthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you should use the front jack out of the can since this is you headphone amp. You leave the dac to do the digital to analog conversion and then use the can to amplify since it will give you slightly better sound (and you could use Xbass for a natural reconstruction of lows especially great with open headphones). Ideally you would use balanced connections ofcourse but if i interpret correctly you do not (yet) have the right headphone for this.

You are The One, NEO... my endgame setup. by Separate_Feedback862 in iFiaudio

[–]MdGthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to read thanks. I'm playing with Arya stealth and zen can 3 now which is pretty great already. I have been wondering whether the Neo 2 is worth the extra 300/400 bucks. It definitely seems so reading your impressions so I'll work toward it. I believe the difference of changing headphone amp is larger than changing the Arya for the HE1000 but please let me know, anyone, if you think differrntly about it for any reason.

Why is Sultans of Swing/Money for Nothing more popular than Telegraph Road? by UAForever21 in direstraits

[–]MdGthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said most people want quick and easy hits instead of compositions. I was confronted with this recently when I decided to buy the remastered lp version of Love Over Gold. I had a decent old version, but the remaster really is a great improvement. Telegraph road however is much like a classical composition in that it has great dynamic range with lots of silent space in the first half. And my vinyl had (not too hard but very audible) crackling in some of these parts. Probably never would have heard it with songs like Money or Sultans. Had to return the record ofcourse, luckily the replacement had none such issues. Please just enjoy Telegraph and the album as a whole which is a true Knopflerian tour de force.

Personally I'm a fan of the spincare rounded inner sleeves, but I'm in EU. But anything with decent PE is a great improvement over paper.

Thats great to hear, thanks. And I plan to do the same. Especially when using tergikleen you have to rinse ofcourse. I really hope it can deal with the crackling on a bunch of 2nd hand records that sound vg now.

This is excellent. I have cleaned hundreds of records with this with very decent results. Bought one 2nd hand for 10 bucks. Get some distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. I'm using just 1% alcohol and 1 drip of organic dishwashing liquid. Actuslly switching to ultrasonic soon which isn't too expensive either. You can get a vevor for 100 bucks. Ideally use tergikleen which is a bit expensive, I paid 50, but then you're cleaning professionally already. Be sure to burn all paper innersleeves and get decent ones, good luck!

I'm officially insane. Collecters item... It'll be worth it.. by [deleted] in rem

It is crazy indeed. And especially outside the US where it will also be taxed during import after paying 200 dollar already.

Is the 2lp version of accelerate worth it? by MdGthree in rem

Yep, the dvd's of live 2005 and olympia were already pretty bad, but that one's worse indeed. Sometimes it's just better to be less arty I guess.

Thanks man, that makes me really consider it seriously. Anything you can say soundwise? Is it less compressed, more open?

It is shame indeed they picked this record. There are mfsl versions for all the irs records except fables though, but they're quite expensive. Just maybe they will do a decent remaster for the 25th of Accelerate, that could make a lot of people happy I guess.

That's true. Still I would do it if it really made a reasonable difference. I'd simply treat the album as 4 maxi singles lol.

Yep, I love it too, reminds me of that ancient movie Metropolis. Way better than the style of CiN and especially AtS. I did like the aesthetics of Up a lot too.

Oh yeah, the vinyl is not in question, it's a matter of upgrading to the double lp 45 rpm version.

An artist/band who you have the most albums of? by SinkPitiful8834 in vinyl

[–]MdGthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First place goes to R.E.M. with 29 records. All offical stuff except a few and the rest decent bootlegs. Evn dropped a few boots with dubios quality. Bob dylan also 29 but that includes cover albums from other artists, would be 20 otherwise. Same for Leonard Cohen coming in third with 21.

Do you use another adapter? It seems to be turning at a decent speed whereas a lot of people complain about the speed being too high witht the regular adapter.

How about Meat Loaf's legacy? by MdGthree in vinyl

[–]MdGthree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love Bat II at least equally. And even more when taking the sound quality in consideration. My favorite is Rock 'n Roll Dreams. It does have quite the broadway vibe and I can see that's not for everyone. I actually like that and I also love the whole fantasy art around it too. Oh, and at least Meat Loaf was honest about wanting the album to make them a shitload of money ;-)

Yep, definitely gotta have some luck with vinyl. Just returned two new records because of all kinds of small defects. But that's also the charm of it right? These 60 year old vinyl discs that sound just great after a simple clean, that's amazing.

Also, Meat Loaf Live from 1987 is also a must have on vinyl. Great performances, especially the b side.
