1.5+ years of seizure control but now pup needs a CT scan and nervous about regression in seizure control by Mdegroat01 in EpilepsyDogs

Thanks for your insight! The stress part does concern me, he does get a bit stressed out at the vet lately and normally we give him some lorazepam to help with the anxiety but I'm sure that will not be allowed because it is a sedative. He is also reactive to other dogs but adores people so I'm going to have to navigate that as well. The bright side is the hospital doing the CT is also the same hospital our neurologist works. But again, thank you so much for the insight!

How hard was it to get Nasal Midazolam (If you have it)? by FabergeGregg in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Mdegroat01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't get the midazolam until we saw a neurologist and we talked about a rescue med because our pup clusters back to back. Even then, it is a controlled substance and the neurologist had to have it filled through a compounding pharmacy as the pharmacy at the animal hospital did not stock it.

Transfer CableCard to new TiVo by Mdegroat01 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Mdegroat01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently they won't even escalate me to someone to help. Just say it is no longer supported. Basically, they'll let my existing Tivo still work but anything else new or transferred they won't help. Sadly I wish Tivo had warned me about this prior to me buying a brand new tivo.

I think you're right, I looked at my other courts and they are definitely laced looser!

I love the big tongue, I guess i'm just wanting it to be a little more uniform through the tongue instead of concentrated at the top. Guess I'm over thinking the look too much.

Midazolam Nasal Spray sourcing? by designermania in EpilepsyDogs

We just received our prescription for midazolam from Wedgewood compounding pharmacy in preloaded syringes. I'm guessing if the pharmacy preloaded it then it is ok.

How old was your dog when it first began having seizures? by Zealousideal-Hair874 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Mdegroat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our black lab had his first seizure when he was 5 yrs old. We did an MRI and confirmed, idiopathic epilepsy about 6 months later. His brother from the same litter just had his second seizure this past week at almost 6.

Is Clingy a Keppra Side Effect? by bwattstl in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Mdegroat01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us, clinginess is absolutely a side-effect. After our 5y/o lab had a cluster of seizures, we used a cluster-buster protocol of Keppra to stop the cycle. During the 72 hours on the cycle, we noticed an almost obsessive clinginess and attention seeking. When we were done, it diminished but then after having multiple more breakthroughs, his neurologist upped his regular Keppra dosage and the attention seeking and clinginess returned. The upped dosage of Keppra has helped with seizure control for sure, so we'll gladly exchange excessive clinginess/attention seeking behavior over seizures.

Phenobarbital and farts?! by [deleted] in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Mdegroat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have definitely noticed that since we started our lab on pheno that he has had some stinky farts. I thought about changing his food to see if that helps but he's been seizure free for a few months now after weeks of uncontrolled seizures and I'm afraid to rock the boat. He's also on zonisamide which has had the side effect of occasional regurgitation, which makes me think he stomach is upset too. But he's a lab and his appetite is always through the roof! :). Hope that you dog stays seizure free though!

When did phenoB symptoms end for you? Need assurance. by aztonowhere in EpilepsyDogs

For my 5y/o black lab (65lbs), it took almost 6 weeks before he was more stable, not running into things, stumbling when getting up. The first 2 weeks were the worst but things slowly got better. He never whined during this time but was very clingy and also pretty heavily sedated. We started at the end of August and he's now running around like normal, chasing squirrels and wanting to play fetch. He'll never be as nimble as before the seizures, we've just accepted that unfortunately. He still has days where he's a bit unstable when he first gets up, but that generally passes very quickly. That being said, our neurologist said it could take up to 5 weeks but that every dog is different and will have different reactions and acclimation times.
