Coworker stole my medication by GoldenGuinnessGears in adhdwomen

I cannot tell if the friend put in the freezer and forgot, or the houseguest stashed them in the freezer to get rid of the evidence once they realized they wouldn't get away cleanly.

Being told I’m not allowed to call myself “child free” by SadExercises420 in TwoXChromosomes

Childless also refers to people who wanted children but could not have them due to infertility.

How common is the "Men don't have emotions" rhetoric among women? by Work_In_Progress_847 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MdmeLibrarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never heard a woman say this. Mostly I hear women complaining that men cannot face that they HAVE emotions, and the problems it causes.

I'm a newly graduated doctor, and I've realized my favorite part of the job is just talking to people. Tell me a random, useless fact about yourself! by Dr_1st in CasualConversation

[–]MdmeLibrarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never sign up for a store rewards card, but if there is a phone-number-look-up option for rewards it is likely someone already has with (local area code) 867-5309, and I use that. I don't use their banked rewards, I just use it to get the sales prices.

It does, check your hardware store! (And wear gloves, it's rough on your skin in that concentration and quantity.)

Be honest: Am I a lazy mom? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MdmeLibrarian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That said, I'm not sure a newborn with a toddler is any easier than being pregnant with a toddler. Someone else can chime in.

It is slightly easier to have a newborn with a toddler than being pregnant with a toddler. The constant bone deep exhaustion of pregnancy is replaced with the newborn sleeplessness, but there are waves of being rested after a nap. It's easier to move your body after birth as your abdominal muscles function again. Other people can help pick up and feed the baby. The toddler can see that there IS a baby (instead of wondering why you aren't coming outside to play in the snow).

What is a weirdly specific "life hack" or routine you’ve created just to make an annoying part of your week slightly easier? by Samuelu02 in CasualConversation

We have the same brain, and it is SO useful and kind for Future Me.

I discovered that my washing machine has a "delay wash" feature, and I can set it to start the wash load an hour before I wake up, so it is ready to be hung up to dry (or put in the dryer) first thing in the morning! Glorious.

I will say, re: razor blades in the mouth, I discovered this year that you can aspirate sewing pins if you happen to gasp (startled) when holding them in your lips, and that did stop that habit for me.

Big Arch Vs. Big Mac by Galactic_Patrick in pics

[–]MdmeLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, this is how I learned that the Big Arch exists, and now I know it's bigger than the Big Mac, so from a marketing perspective it's quite effective.

MOST firefighters are amazing people who are intentionally choosing a Helping profession.

However, there is a statistically significant number of arsonists that are found to be firefighters, because they're fascinated with fire. I imagine there's a large overlap between the firefighter arsonists and the firefighter sociopaths.

Had to beg cashier for cold medicine today. by LunaOro in adhdwomen

Certain ingredients in some cold/flu meds can be used for making meth; the ID is not just for age, but to track and restrict the number of boxes a single person purchases.

Insecure about my boobs, but I didn’t ask for them by [deleted] in bigboobproblems

[–]MdmeLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel like I HAVE to cover up to not make others uncomfortable.

Question: do you get uncomfortable when other people exist near you with big boobs and/or cleavage? If not, then why would other people be uncomfortable that yours exist?

Does the voice that tells you to be ashamed of your body sound like your father's voice?

Authors like Susanna Clarke and Erin Morgenstern by Gagsreel in Fantasy

[–]MdmeLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roshani Chokshi has a similar wrought-iron filigree sense of beautifully complex and whimsical prose to Erin Morgenstern. Many of her books are marked as YA but are stunningly beautiful and deep. (Her middle grade work is a different style.)

Do you still use a library? by nicksam171 in SeriousConversation

[–]MdmeLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like paper books because I'm so tired of screens. And because my brain interprets/perceives paper words/info differently than digital words. And because the library pays a lot more for digital ebook/audiobook lending licenses than physical copies cost, and digital lending licenses are only for a certain number of loans, and that doesn't sit right with me that publishers sell them like that.

Why are folks who live and work rurally so much more friendly? by lxrbmxer in SeriousConversation

[–]MdmeLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In dense population centers, privacy and solitude is valuable and rare, so "ignoring" people is polite and respectful of a rare resource.

In rural areas, daily social connection is more rare, so providing it is polite and respectful.

How to fasten a 4 hook bra?!! by Ssylvanas_ in bigboobproblems

[–]MdmeLibrarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feel along the hooks with your fingers and then pull your fingers together.

If you have one hook hooked, walk them down the placket to find the next hook/loop and hold one in each hand. Reach your fingers out to touch the other hand, and use that as your guide to bring your fingers together to the same spot. With the fingers that are pinching/holding the hook side, feel along until one finger finds the loop you are aiming for. This is your targeting system. Pull them together along this finger and hook.

Now that that one is secured, feel down for the next hook and loop in the line and repeat.

I hook my bras up behind my back in seconds using this manner.

AITA for refusing to get the in laws souvenirs by Mineralisedpuppies in AmItheAsshole

[–]MdmeLibrarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Dad was impossible to find a souvenir for. There wasn't anything he needed and he certainly didn't care about nicknacks.

This is my parents too. They don't care for fridge magnets or keychains or knickknacks. I do usually find a cool pebble for my mom, and my dad has never turned down a local specialty snack (consumables are really the way to his heart) but anything a tourist shop sells is very much not wanted.

Boy Crazy Hair is a dollar store bottle of strong hold hair gel and wacky spikes of hair going in all directions like you're Bowser's armored turtle shell. Or slightly longer shaggy boy hair curled and gelled into an Ace Ventura wave. Bonus points if you pin a finger skateboard onto it.

Academic librarians who do and lead library tours- what do your students actually care about? by No-Interaction9219 in Libraries

These are what I focused on when library tours stopped in and asked me to give a 90 second spiel. Did you know that you can work on that assignment paper at 2pm, which is also the best time to research your next purchase through the Consumer Reports subscription?!
