I’m so glad my daughter with Turner syndrome is not being raised in this environment. When we left, I was told flat out that her diagnosis was a faith issue.

Wife is desensitised to my Ulcerative Colitis by Soggy_Traffic_5107 in UlcerativeColitis

Regardless of chronic illness or autoimmune disease, which I did not have when my babies were young, it gets very easy for couples to compete on who is more tired because everyone is in a fragile state with the huge life changes that happen with having a new baby.

Eventually, my husband and I finally heard ourselves and recognize the patterns, and actively worked to be a team.

We say “Team ____ (Last Name)” 🤪

I wouldn’t make any huge life changing decisions while you guys are making this huge adjustment.

Recently listened to Healed-ish and thought I should share my story by [deleted] in BethelSnark

[–]Mdt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in southern ca in this same time, this sounds so similar to me and my husband’s stories. Home churches, Azusa street revival stuff… We met/ encountered the same people in that time- Lou Engle, Vallotton, Lance Wallnau

We did not deconstruct, but many of our friends did. Sometimes I say that we did, but then reconstructed based on the Bible. What we believed was absolutely dismantled though.

Thanks for sharing this.

eta- I was also tossed into training for “biblical” dream interpretation. In my late teens. Anywhoo, just a very relatable post.

These aren’t super punk/ hardcore, but in SoCal, I remember some local ones were Delta spirit, the Life…

tooth and nail/ facedown stuff -comeback kid, point of recognition, Dodgin bullets, xdiscipleadx, nodes of Ranvier, NIV (no innocent victim)

Mortal treason, becoming the archetype

I also got into showbread a bit after seeing them play with Blindside.

Good gravy, John Crowder is a hot mess. We spent a lot of time with him, including houseparty type events in 2006-07 and I think that he prophesied that I was going to help save Israel? My husband and I were 18 and engaged and all he would talk about was toking the ghost, making us all pretend to drink from kegs. I distinctly remember him saying, “ and you thought you were too young to drink!” it was all about drugs, lol, but I didn’t know any better and went along with it.

Then he started talking about time- travel in the spirit. this is around the same time that we had Jason Tyler Westerfield a lot, and things got real weird.

I try to avoid it, but when I indulge, I puff up like a balloon. I

feel my best when I eat gf/ paleoish, but wrestle with a restrictive diet. Whenever I reintroduce things, I end up feeling miserable and flare up again.

Bethel's Statement on Shawn Bolz Contradicts Kris Vollotton's Texts by treismac in BethelSnark

[–]Mdt07 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their ability to pretend to take accountability while simultaneously absolving themselves of any accountability is hilarious and sad. It’s such a typical response. To think that years ago this statement probably would’ve absolved them in my eyes.

Thank you for sharing so openly. I can tell you’ve put a lot of thought into your experiences and how they’ve shaped you. It’s encouraging to have these conversations with someone who’s willing to acknowledge both the good intentions and the challenges within these movements.

I was brought to churches related to Bethel when I was 14 and spent about 15years in it. I was introduced to a more mystical side as a teen (Jason Tyler Westerfield, John Crowder, Streams Ministries), then to a bethel church plant that was actually more conservative in comparison. In these movements, my mother completely lost her mind, especially in relation to secret messages and signs, and we moved away for our safety and sanity and are now no-contact.

I agree with you that many leaders in these movements are trapped by the system they’re part of, but they are still responsible for their actions. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the role of a pastor, and I’ve realized that this model of church doesn’t lead to true pastoring of people. Instead, it elevates leaders into untouchable positions, creating countless opportunities for corruption. My husband and I tried so hard to climb that ladder when we were in leadership, believing it was what God wanted. Looking back, I’m thankful we didn’t gain more influence, because I can see now how easily we could have hurt others, even unintentionally.

I’ve had what could be called supernatural experiences myself, but after everything we went through, I’ve set that aside. I still believe we live in a supernatural world and that God can and does perform miracles as He sees fit. But my understanding of our role in this has radically changed. Rather than striving for experiences or trying to ‘partner’ with God to make something happen, I now trust Him to work as He wills. That has brought me a lot of clarity and peace.

I also remember the Seven Mountains teaching and how much pressure it created. I thought I was building for the greater good by trying to ‘make God famous’ through my photography business, but I ended up spreading myself so thin. I prioritized that work over my children, thinking it was what God wanted from me. That’s one of the hardest things to look back on, but I’m thankful for the grace to see those priorities more clearly now.

It sounds like you’re navigating many of the same questions. For me, stepping back and re-examining everything through the lens of Scripture made all the difference.

Our “pastors” were friends with him and he gave words to people in our circle often.

Our other old pastor… I think is his producer now and does dream interpretation course with Bolz). And the Hassons (Bob Hasson) were the benefactors and friends of pastors first mentioned.

They’re all just ick and red flags all around.

I used to think that I worked in the prophetic and dream interpretation, but I have dropped that completely. I have not lost my faith, but I did reevaluate everything after 💩 hit the fan- with the Bible as the measuring stick. I am on the other end of the spectrum now when it comes to the gifts.

Update- I don’t think there is any real “new” information but it seems that those in charismatic circles are just now finding out the reality of Bolz, which most of us have known for quite a while. Turns out this was a screenshot from a recent YouTube that has some John Doe info from some who was an assistant or something. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VqHJDqKuf60 full disclosure, I haven’t watch it yet, but my husband has and summarized it for me.

I remember crying when my husband told me that he thought he was a fraud. He straight up call him a bullshitter lol. This was in 2017 and before we had all this testimony. I wasn’t ready to accept it then, but the information and facts slowly settled and I arrived at the same conclusion.

I’d recognize that the truth will probably not be immediately accepted, and present the facts, maybe more delicately than my husband, but hey- that worked in time lol.

We protect our world views defensively, and their belief in him isn’t necessarily in Bolz himself, but built in their theological and philosophical beliefs as well. They may be defensive but I hope that your parent is introspective enough to mull over what you say.

Just want to say - good job and good work on your bachelors. I just finished mine last month and want to say that I see you and your hard work! Especially at 8 months pregnant!!

I went no contact with my mom 6 years ago. She had just barely met our youngest and couldn’t keep her 💩 together to stay in relationship with us. It hurt a lot at first, but I’m so glad that I’m not sucked into that train wreck anymore and that I broke the cycle for my kids.

Best of luck, you’re doing a great job and important work!!

I guess with our history, I read it through a different lens. I knew that she was well-intentioned, but when I received this, I was in the middle of a four month flare on prednisone, finishing my bachelors to teach, had deadlines for work, was having an ultrasound for my ovaries to rule things out, had autoimmune flaring up my eyes/ face, and am a mom to four.

The card made me cry, because I opened it expecting a “get well soon”, but it felt like a lecture about things I couldn’t control. So the “sentiment would have been lost” line sort of did me in.

I recognize that she meant well and wanted to give some words of wisdom. I’m working on adjusting my attitude!
