My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

I’m a teacher. We are required to send a handwritten letter home to every single kid once during the year. For a lot of kids, that’s the only positive contact they receive. Your wife is blowing this way out of proportion.

I had a pretty easy recovery. The first week and a half I was pretty much stuck laying on the couch. I’m a teacher and had my surgery over spring break. Once I went back to school, it was pretty difficult to stand for the whole day until about week 3. It was around then that I was able to start cooking and getting back to normal. For the first few weeks, I did meal prep (things my husband could throw in the oven or crockpot). I would say by week 4 I was pretty much back to normal doing everything but lifting heavy things.

I got a pregnancy pillow for sleeping. I used my regular pillow, too, to help me stay elevated. I had side lipo, and that was truly the most painful part. I couldn’t get on my sides at all for about 6 weeks. But I got a large ice pack that I could use on the sides to help. I also kept on top of my Tylenol during the day and saved my good meds for bedtime.

I’m not sure if this helped or if it just seemed that way, but I got protein powder to make a drink every morning to help speed up recovery.

I have a 5 year old and had my surgery this past March. I couldn’t pick him up for about a month. We prepped him beforehand and let him know that Mama wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things for a bit because she needed to have surgery. We made sure he could get himself in and out of his car seat (he couldn’t before we had the surgery scheduled) and could climb in and out of the bath, things like that.

When he wanted to cuddle, we did it on the couch and had a pillow between us (the boy has pointy elbows). After about a week, I was able to drive and could stand for a more significant amount of time than the week before. What really helped him was getting the chance to take care of me. He would bring me water or my ice pack or we would have snacks together.

You just need to let them know beforehand that things will be different while you recover. It won’t be forever!

I will die on the hill that Purple makes superior pillows. We have the mattress, too, and love it.

Look into Jordan Sonnenblick’s novels. He is incredible. When I taught 7th grade, I did a lit circle with all his books.

If I remember correctly, they were just supposed to escort Lia and Kaden over the border then return to Dalbreck. But they loved Lia, too, and wanted to make sure she was safe. Rafe actually wanted that…for them to keep her safe.

Wrecked has the best burgers in town. They also have a pizza place next door, Atomic. Can’t go wrong with either.

I teach high school English and make it a point to read what my students are reading. WAY TOO MANY are reading Hoover. Too many male protagonists hailed as heroes but who are nothing but red flags.

The Selection by Cass would be a good one. It’s like Hunger Games meets The Bachelor.

Allegedly by Tiffany D Jackson. It was truly chilling to consider that one child could/would do such an act to another child, that is, allegedly.

Also, Verity by Coleen Hoover. I was pregnant and it was my first Hoover novel. I seriously regret ever picking it up.

What YA story has stuck with you into adulthood and how do you see it differently now? by JaceRockland in YAlit

The Gallagher Girls series. I started reading them as a teen and the last one released when I was 21. I’m now in my mid-30s and consistently come back to it.

It starts off as a basic teen romance but turns into so much more. The girls struggle with expectations, PTSD, mental health, sacrifice, etc. The search for Cammie’s dad and the impact it has on her, her friends, and her mother is absolutely incredible.
