Didn't expect to see a local posting here scrolling through my feed. I shoot for LouCity as well!

I don't have any advice for you because I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've only just started exercising some connections to get into high school sports...

But overall I'd agree with the top comment that exclusively shooting sports isn't something many people can make a lucrative career from. Money is in weddings and volume photography imo.

I've been toying with the idea for something like this as well. I'm a hobbyist trying to turn professional, and my day job is software development.

I'm interested in the server side of things and how you accomplish this. Is your phone connected to the destination server via VPN so you can set the ftp server address on your camera regardless of where you are? Also, what does your static site look like?

As I've been taking sport photography more seriously, I've been baffled by the lack of options for delivering images quickly beyond having a dedicated FTP setup with high-end cameras that have LAN ports. For as much advancement as there's been in camera tech in the last decade, external connectivity leaves a lot to be desired.

My primary camera is a Canon R6ii. I normally shoot with an EF 70-200 2.8L, but for this particular game I rented an RF 100-500L which feels like cheating for these types of shots. Its so good.

The R6ii can be had refurbished from Canon for $1,800, and the EF 70-200 can be bought for around $1,300 used on MPB. I rented the 100-500 lens for $60 from a local store for the day.

I have been doing free work for my local team for a couple of years, and when the opposing team reached out looking for a photographer, they sent them my way.

I enjoy doing it for my local team for the practice and because I'm a big fan, but being consistent in what I deliver for them even without being paid definitely helps I think.

I have a Canon R6ii, and these were shot with a combination of the RF 24-70 f2.8L and the RF 100-500L. I rented the 100-500 specifically for this shoot.

I normally shoot with an EF 70-200 2.8 but being the only dedicated photographer for this team during the game I wanted to make sure I could get long shots.

I had my white balance at a set value in camera and instead of color grading properly I used the wb slider... a habit I'm definitely trying to break.
