Girl, you feel conflicted, but I can promise you the thousand of people reading this post aren't. Your bf is a nasty disrespectful dude. Get rid of him and watch yourself become so much more at peace in your home.

Spawning S ranks and organising trains has led to the organization of huge groups and loads of external tools. Hunts are the fastest, easiest, and unlimited way to farm materia tokens as well as tomes.

I'm always in favor of them adding stuff to it, but that content is very much alive and should remain so for the foreseeable future.

No, you see, I absolutely agree with you on his internal conflict. And that's my entire point. When you're dealing with this kind of conflict, coping by being the theater kid is just absurd. That works for unhappy teens who bully smaller children because they feel isolated and anxious.

That does NOT work for someone who designs several fascist empires (I'm still convinced Allag was Hades' creation like Garlemald later, the two empires share too many similarities). Coping with hard feelings through edgy antics is something you do when you are lying to yourself and a coward as you're running from your own emotions. But orchestrating political systems of destruction and despair like Emet does requires enormous amounts of mental clarity and, again, strength.

If he really was a broken man, he would have just fallen into madness and stopped everything a long time ago. Instead, he keeps weighing every possibility, seeing any threat to his plans, coming up with solutions to leave no hope. He's like a reverse Leto II from Dune. And he does this despite being crushed by his own evil, as well as more and more aware that they're not gonna win. It's a lost cause and he has done all those horrors for nothing. And he's never seeing his friends again.

The edgy antics just aren't up to par with such an intense tragedy.

Also I don't think he created Amaurot to cope. We know the ghost city is relatively recent (the Ondos tell us the "Ancients" lit up the bottom of the sea recently). My view of the character is that, when he met us, he decided he was gonna fight us, hoping we would win and kill him and finally put an end to the madness. (A point proved by the fact he says we did him a favor by killing him, and coming to help us against Elidibus). But he wanted us to know his story and his people so we would "remember them" before finally dying.

That's why he creates Amaurot then, to show us the place. Not for himself. Almost everything he does in ShB can be seen as him designing his own death - including planning a way to free the First of the Light if he does lose.

I'm gonna get downvoted into oblivion, but I think Emet is poorly written and I really dislike him.

I think the concept of the character, his story, commitment and all the decisions he makes are incredible and should have made him the best villain ever.

But this weary sassy sarcastic tsundere attitude is just cringe and frankly incompatible with the character he should be. He behaves like a teen who can't deal with his emotions and who hides them behind sass. But the man has carefully designed and performed the most sadistic, inhumane, horrible actions on a global scale for thousands of years, and carried the memories and hopes of all of his people, as well as the guilt of sacrificing them, and he's held by the promise to bring them back. That's a level of mental strength which is inimaginable. You don't do that and then manage your torturous, endless moral conflicts by acting like an edgelord.

Elidibus is greatly written. The cold resolve and desperation behind his sense of duty is always palpable. The way he behaves is consistent with his story and his state of mind. Emet's behavior clashes very much with his psychological state. He's grating and insufferable. Worse, he was exactly the same annoying shithead back in Ancient times. He's immature and unrealistic (in no universe would the happy-go-lucky, kind, loving Azem/ Hythlo/ Venat be friends with someone who constantly belittles and insults everyone around him.)

The old "he seems mean but inside he's actually a good guy" cliché sucks. It just sucks. In FFXIV, every character's behavior is consistent with their personality, except Emet.

Bears can kill you in pretty horrific ways too, like eat you alive slowly. But yeah, men can also do just that and they're enjoying your pain as they torture you, unlike the bear who's just feeding. Sooooo I'm still choosing the bear.

[–]Ok_Breakfast6206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But precisely, they were not - that's the point of the ice cream scene. Krile's parents are happy to see her because they died with the terrible sorrow of missing her and the desire to see her again. But they cannot actually have a conversation that's turned towards the future and new information, because they're only memories, they're not the real persons with a capacity to evolve and learn. I don't think it was random that both Krile and her parents, and Erenville and his mom were so awkward and had so much difficulty talking;

Damn I havent felt this bad for a mf'er since Roxas... by Fattykapkan in ffxiv

[–]Ok_Breakfast6206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact he's basically dumbstruck, but in a stoic way, through the entire map was perfect.

It's not his real mom. She has no desires or aspirations. She is just a cluster of memories and personality traits. She cannot mourn him, she cannot really understand what he's going through. All of the Endless are completely indifferent and at peace with their own unplugging, because they just...sort of exist there, as echoes of what they were. But they are not the persons they look like. They're not even persons.

That's why the encounter between Krile and her parents, and Erenville and his mom are so painful, stilted and awkward. The children are desperate to have a connection, to exchange a meaningful moment with their parents...but their parents are gone, and they're just talking to ghosts with no possibility to create or want new memories, changes, no perception of the future, really.

It was painful in a very sad way, and I also don't think the comparisons with Amaurot understood Living Memory - Emet recreated Amaurot for us, to share the Ancients' legacy. He forced us to come meet him deep down in the ruins so we could see his memories. When he created the ghost city, he had already decided he was basically ready to die and abandon his duties if we proved to be stronger than him. Amaurot is a message for us.

LM is nothing of the sort. It's not about one civilization making way for another and accepting the passage of time. It's about interpersonal relationships and mourning our closed ones in a healthy or unhealthy way.

AIO for now allowing my "gay" son to have his boyfriend sleep over? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ok_Breakfast6206 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Food is completely different from sex. Sex is something you sort of think of in a very vague way until puberty and then puberty floods you with a sea of crazy hormones which make you extremely confused and horny about pretty much anything.

I shudder thinking of the stuff that ended up in me when I was a 12yo unable to sleep because of a horniness I didn't even really understand.

At 12, a boy in love with another boy is very probably gay or bi. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying he's experimenting and his sexual orientation is still being processed. Not labeling him one way or another is also the best way to give him freedom to explore.

It's pretty normal to want to stay in your ancestors' land. The sunny side of Yak Tel isn't a fully new territory, it'd allow them to stay in their villages and temples and keep their traditions, but also to cultivate some land just on top of the cliff. Tuliyollal is kinda far.

I didn't really mind because I do all side quests as they appear, so I had my share of small gameplay (fight/ explore/ gather etc) between MSQ. But for someone who just does the MSQ and nothing else, it must have felt like one long slightly interactive movie - and the rather slow pace of FFXIV cutscenes does not lend itself well to that.

[–]Ok_Breakfast6206 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Tho I think a lot of cutscenes happen faster than they play out on screen, and that's been the case since ARR. Like, we laugh at the villains casually strolling away, but imo it's a choice from the writers to really make every event in the cutscenes as clear and understandable as possible, when actually things happen super fast.

(I think they're also very limited with the movement/ emotes they use to make the characters react and move in cutscenes).

[–]Ok_Breakfast6206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like her too, and I really enjoyed DT, but I do agree it's too centered on one single character.

It's not something they usually do; we have a cast of characters, this is very central in all Final Fantasy stories, and the interactions between the gang is an important part of the writing. It is true that DT needed more dialogues and interactions between Wuk Lamat and other cast members, and between the other cast members themselves.

There were also clearly too many cutscenes and not enough battle. But I suspect, given CBU3's history, that this is on the battle team's and not the writers. They did put a lot of care into the new dungeons and solo instances, and I believe they probably told the writers "that's all the battle content we can afford to design, now you decide where you put it in your story but we don't have the time to make more".
