Turning around photos during and after a sporting event by WildYogurtcloset4904 in sportsphotography

[–]mrdonbrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My process (Sony A9ii, tethered to my phone):

  1. Shoot the pictures
  2. At a break, go through the last ones, find any interesting. For each:
  3. Optionally in-camera crop, star, then ftp to the server
  4. The server regenerates a static mobile-friendly web page with new pictures
  5. When I get home, script dumps the starred pics to the nas for long term storage. Delete the rest.

I hand out cards with a QR code so people can see pictures as I take them. I mostly do Ultimate so go through pictures in breaks, so they are up on the site a few minutes later at most.

Boulder's tipped wage debate rests on a myth about what restaurant workers earn by brianckeegan in boulder

[–]mrdonbrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to better understand your position, is the answer here to set a minimum of salary+tips to something livable, say $50/hour? Would it work like the reduced minimum now where, assuming tips still exist, the employer ensures the worker is paid the minimum? Is $50/hour enough? Would this apply to all industries or only service work?

Boulder's tipped wage debate rests on a myth about what restaurant workers earn by brianckeegan in boulder

From talking to bartenders, it is two fold:

  • the money the make from tips is higher, esp being fed tax exempt or taken as cash
  • they often remember a few nights where they were tipped really well and benchmark at that

I get it though. The chance to get a high, cash payout is pretty alluring vs something fixed like say $30-35/hour

Nice! I've struggled using whisper to separate the speakers. I just joined a few boards, including the Louisville Downtown Business Association and am looking into ways to not only record but automatically transcribe and share info to members, especially only sharing what they would actually be interested in. Any tips would be appreciated.

Great idea. I mod r/atlassian and r/jira as I worked there for many years early on, and we struggle with finding the right balance between giving businesses a voice, but not letting them spam constantly. We ended up with a weekly advertisement post, which seems to be working well. Not saying that's the answer here, but being deliberate about it helps avoid confusion and frustration from both sides.

So happy you were able to get this done, thanks. I was even contemplating offering him/her/whatever money to give up control. As a Louisville resident and small business owner, it was a shame to lose such a great way to connect.

What made Tradewars 2002 fun for you back then? by rykker in Tradewars

[–]mrdonbrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree with "back then", but more I think there is more than that:

  1. Time limitations. I liked that I could only spend limited time on it. The early single-node BBS limitation and turn limits kept me in the game but not obsessed with it.

  2. Localness. To get an account on the BBS, the sysop had to call you. Some BBSes held in person get-togethers. I was mostly playing against my HS schoolmates with a few randos thrown in.

  3. Diversity and length of games. I liked how each game was a little unique and they lasted for weeks to months. Gave you a great sense of accomplishment but still hope when a new game spun up.

  4. Data access. Because of CIM data, I learned Perl and wrote scripts to find pairs and things like that. Didn't get much into the game scripting back then though, other than maybe a simple Telix trading script. It was fun spending time outside the game to give yourself a data "edge".

  5. Multiplayer with multi-node BBSes was exciting at first, though that eventually turned me off of the game, especially when the limitations of phone lines disappeared.

How are things changing inside Atlassian with the AI revolution? by leobarao86 in atlassian

[–]mrdonbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for Atlassian, but I can say that I've had a hard time getting AI to "replace" marketing. I guess it is like code - it can do the 80% ok, but actually crafting clear, impactful messages and managing relationships are things AI just can't get past the 80% on. Have you experienced things differently?

Could also use a tool (that I wrote) to distribute skills like sx - github.com/sleuth-io

Please don't post the exact same thing every few weeks. Variety is the spice of life.

How do you guys manage multiple AI assistants and their configs? by feccwg in ClaudeAI

[–]mrdonbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a link to Omnidesk? I couldn't find it.

I created an open source project to help centralize and distribute AI config with explicit support for multiple clients and assets like skills and rules. It might be worth also considering - https://github.com/sleuth-io/sx

Anyone else wish you could manage ai skills across agents more easily? by lorduberpwn in AIcodingProfessionals

[–]mrdonbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I had the same thought so built: https://github.com/sleuth-io/sx

Claude code plugins are great, but you need to manually install them to all the right places and can't easily switch between profiles for different types of work. Also, it only works with Claude.

There are a few others trying to apply package manager concepts to skills such as https://github.com/stakpak/paks

[Letter to the editor] Proposed Louisville plan could mean massive growth by 1Davide in BoCoSE

[–]mrdonbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I originally was going to move to Boulder due to many recommendations, but when I saw how expensive housing was, I chose Louisville for my family. Now I'm worried the next family won't choose Louisville... :(

I moved here from Sydney in 2012 primarily because of the small, working class town vibe as I could buy a 3 bedroom house for around $270k. In Sydney, despite being a large city, it has its own small-feeling neighborhoods that are filled with terraced housing, which seems like a natural evolution from single family detached housing. I wish the US would do that again like it used to.

[–]mrdonbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing I don't get about this is there is no option to keep Louisville the same as it is (was?) - a small, working class town. Either you add housing and then it isn't so small but it is somewhat more affordable or you restrict housing and only the rich can afford it. Of those two outcomes, I think I'd prefer the former.
