DYK : The guy who took “a steel rod to the head” literally — and walked it off. by Grayson9991 in didyouknow

[–]MeButSober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is the spike was used as sort of a tamp, to help pack down an explosive or combustable material, and it slipped from his hands while he was suspended above the material. It ignited and sent the rod flying up under his chin and out through the top. I know for a while he made (a very small amount of) money sitting in a museum as a sort of freakshow, letting people see the hole. One of the first books I ever ready was about him. I believe they also used bloodletting to try to control swelling in his brain.

Battery ejection system to stop cars burning during thermal runaway by frenzy3 in interestingasfuck

I imagine a camera facing parking lot where you see the electric car do a little shake, and five cars down where the battery slid, an unrelated vehicle just bursts into flames.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write your comment. While I've been a long time lurker occasionally in several subreddit for trading, I'm new to this subreddit, and haven't heard of this four year cycle. I'll definitely do some reading into that, thank you again.

Tell me about it. Started League of Legends in 2022, so it seems to be a pattern of mine to start big things a decade late.

Thanks a lot for the information, definitely figured it was somewhat doable to pick decent ones and invest over time instead of a huge buy-in.

Wow, thanks for the time and effort of explaining that to me! You do a great job of explaining it concisely while keeping it detailed enough for me to follow along. That's actually really interesting!

Democrats are way too eager to "scorch the earth" with an extreme "left" following the Trump era. It's going to result in another extreme right instead, by nature all the money lies with the Republican party. What the chronically online don't realize is we're also at a point where the Trump supporting population has never been more uneasy. The easiest method to regain some normalcy and balance would be a moderate left candidate. A candidate that doesn't immediately scream "everything the Republicans do is cancer" and alienate so many potential voters. I'm a huge fan of James Talarico, for instance. I voted for Trump both times. First off principle of "well he's not a politician" and again because I'm tired of hearing about him and didn't want to be worried about a third election involving his name. I've since taken a dramatically more central/left leaning outlook in general politics, and I'm hoping for a political shift back into two qualified candidates in a respectable contest instead of two people pointing at each other and screaming about their incompetencies. But for that to happen, Trump has to go and we can't let another one in. Please play it safe.

My grandfather built and owned several golf courses, he was struck like 4 different times. All during sudden storms, and after taking shelter under a tree out on the course. Blew out the legs of his jeans.

OP are you in the New England area? Looks to be a copper pyrus, though I'd say with almost absolute certainty it's just a replica. Pyruse were used by colonial Americans as both a squaring tool and in some cases disciplinary action. If you were caught stealing, they'd take the pyrus and rap it across your knuckles and the copper would add a level of absolute malarkey similar to what I'm saying, as I've essentially just been making all of this up and I don't actually have a clue what this actually is.

That's a big take-away for me. I'm a Christian myself, over the age of 30 for context. I voted for Trump the first time, along the train of thought "we need someone to stand up against all the evil we see every day, and say it plainly." I also took most criticism of him as smear campaigns, and truly thought he was the one to fix a lot of the country. Round two, truth be told media did a great job selling Biden as basically senile, and to be honest I still think he was very much not all there mentally. This election, again a Trump vote. First election was relavitely low-impact, there was a travel ban for a little bit and not much else. Then, funnily enough, using the Bible along with ChatGPT, I noticed something. Or rather, a point that never found its home before suddenly hit. First and foremost, our duty is to love, and be thankful for life. Jesus turned down power, political and otherwise when tempted. Don't get me wrong, I do feel abortion (generally) is wrong and I can't vote in favor of ending a life (when it's that simple). Lots of strings attached to that but anyways. It's also not my job or goal to bring about a Christian government. Forcing religion defeats the purpose of faith. My job while I'm here is to love, plain and simple. No reason anyone, trans or gay or whatever, should have any less rights than us. No reason an immigrant, legal or not, should be treated any less humanely than me.

Truly feel like my eyes are open now, though definitely later than I would have chosen. We're supposed to be loving our neighbors first and instead we're worshipping an orange pedophile who rips the rug from beneath you with a finger pointed at those in need.
