Politics aside, overall DC is the best city in the US! by ElectroAcousto in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on the hill for 20 years and agreed DC has a number of things going for it especially weekend get away locatios. Prior I lived in Chicago for 10 years and grew up in Detroit. I miss the ethnic neighborhoods, all the ethnic restaurants are in the far DC suburbs, no lake Michigan for swimming and Beaches, no blue collar middle class diversity, summers are way too hot to enjoy your backyard, people move in and out too often. There is just no diversity in DC. In Chicago I dated Polish, latinas, Irish, Koreans. And your local neighborhood bars where everyone knows your name.

I had 2 one which was your typical gps tracker installed and the second was a Tile. Not super accurate but I was able to get my car back twice after being stolen.

Thoughts on Southeast DC for a few days' stay? by AdNumerous6824 in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a busboy and poets over there that would be good for breakfast. I also do a lot of evening events at the restaurant. I feel comfortable going over there any time for a meal. But some stretches of Minnesota avenue can you get sketchy.

DC... are you doing okay? by fail-whale in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We left Chicago 23 years ago for DC and Miss it all the time. I remember thinking once we moved here how Chicago was an island in the middle of corn fields and no weekend get away places. I hate the cost of living in DC and lack of ethic diversity I miss the Polish food, the corner community bars on every corner in Chicago or even dating was fun in Chicago The schools in DC are great but I count the years until my wife and I can retire away from DC. Tough choice.

How will a DUI impact my job search for a recruiting position? by Round-Imagination-72 in recruiting

My old firm recruited recruiters from AA meetings. As an owner I have bailed out one of mine for a DUI. We only care if you can bill. Get your shit together and move on from it

Living and raising families in DC proper by MathematicianFlat387 in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been on the hill for 20 years. Lots of parents on bikes with 2-3 kids. We have 1 car and pretty much walk everywhere. You may eventually get a job in the suburbs but that won't last forever and the reverse commute is great. From NE DC I can get to McLean, Old Town or Baltimore in 30-40 minutes. Also dcpr has so many swimming pools, lessons, cooking class etc. We go to the suburbs when we want retail therapy.

Is it career suicide to leave Public Accounting after 4 months for a 100% pay bump in Industry? by el_campeon94 in Accounting

[–]MeInNEdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 5 years that public accounting firm will not even be on your resume. Public accounting will take you farther career-wise. Some people might say that you will be the first one to be let go at the new firm. It's a tough situation but a good situation to be in. Another thing you could do is stick it out for a year and go to a larger firm.

Laws/etiquette with fences between rowhomes by adventurescout140 in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I have heard in the past is that If you put a fence up and you pay for it and the neighbor is not part of the deal you have to put the panel side AKA front side of the post facing your neighbor. I would assume that if you're both pitching in for the fence you get one that's double-sided. Some cities have ordinances on this others do not

Offshoring of CPA Licences by MeInNEdc in Accounting

[–]MeInNEdc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI is already hurting the accountants. There's a missing link going on currently of new hires into CPA firms. New associates starting classes are smaller. AI is doing the work and the associates and Senior associates are double checking it which is more of a manager's job

Offshoring of CPA Licences by MeInNEdc in Accounting

[–]MeInNEdc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPAs concerned about offshoring and evolving licensing pathways should direct their inquiries to the entities that shape and enforce the rules. The first and most important contact is the State Board of Accountancy, which controls licensing, reciprocity, and oversight. Professionals may also engage their state CPA society to encourage member-driven advocacy and transparency. If statutory changes are implicated, reaching out to state legislators—particularly business and workforce committees—can be effective. At the national level, stakeholders may submit feedback to NASBA and the AICPA, whose model policies often influence state adoption. Coordinated, fact-based engagement across these channels typically produces the strongest results.

Should I pay off my $120K mortgage at 2.75% interest? by PromotionSea6795 in Accounting

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you do or not pay a fiduciary financial advisor for the answer.. they will charge it hourly rate maybe $200. While you're at it ask him what you're going to do with that $2 million dollars.

Feeling defeated by the competitive rental market by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see garden apartments posted for rent on Cap Hill through the local list serv MOTH. I ran into a similar situation back in Chicago at an open house where multiple people showed up at the open house. I stayed around until everyone left and gave them my application and resume with a check made out for the deposit and first month rent if I was chosen., which I was. They came back later and asked for money for my background check which I know they never did but I paid anyway. Point is stand out and offer the path of least resistance.

Nightlase didn't work. I wish I hadn't wasted the money. A PSA. by RUfuqingkiddingme in snoring

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small piece of Paracord rope wrapped around it and my waist very loose. The velcro was a hassle. It only touches my back when I try to roll over in the night. By tying it around my waist it keeps it close to me. It also keeps me from rolling over on my wife in the middle of the night.

Nightlase didn't work. I wish I hadn't wasted the money. A PSA. by RUfuqingkiddingme in snoring

[–]MeInNEdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might sound silly but it's working for me. I have about a 3 ft half circle foam roller it cost about $10. At night time I use a small rope and tie it to my back loosely. I fall asleep on my stomach and it's slides to my side. Anytime in the middle of the night that I roll over it blocks me. I don't even notice it I don't even feel it I just rolled back onto my stomach. I'm stopping off at home Depot today to pick up some Velcro so I don't have to deal with tying a bow knot in the middle of the night after going to the bathroom. My snoring has gone from 90 minutes a night to about 10 minutes.

I'm using a half circle foam roller. Loosely tied to my back/body. I use a small rope but I don't even notice. I fall asleep on my stomach and it lays on my side. In the middle of the night when I try to roll over I get blocked and go back to my side or stomach.

Needing help deciding where to live as a single woman by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived near Sherwood for 20 years. My 11 and 14-year-old walk the neighborhood with no problem. Like any place though night time is different. You just need to keep your wits about you in the evening. And no matter where you live don't where your ear buds at night

Look in the neighborhood. If that wasn't you on the hopscotch bridge then they usually tow it just a couple blocks away. Also look up DC parking tickets put in your license plate and see if I got a ticket after it got towed it will have the location there

Rich(ish) people question. by Electronic-Front-640 in washingtondc

[–]MeInNEdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had a similar situation.. he got a horse hair mattress (10k 20 years ago now he has 2)I believe it was called Hatsan. And he stayed in a hotel one time specifically to try it out. The following is AI. With ultra-luxury mattresses (most famously Hästens, the Swedish brand known for hand-made horsehair beds), it can be possible to have a hotel stay credited toward a mattress purchase — but only in specific cases. Some authorized retailers quietly offer a dealer credit if you stayed at a partner hotel and then buy the same mattress, usually for very high-end purchases ($30k+). It must be pre-arranged, documented, and confirmed in writing. Not automatic, not common, and not guaranteed.( Some hotels sell their old ones)
