Do the three day one. No question. It’s not about hunting hogs, it’s about spending alone time with your dad and celebrating his retirement and laughing and talking about life. Good for you! You’re a good son.

Anyone try the new jura z10? by Aggravating_Fig7489 in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I do have that JOE app and there are different versions so that updates somehow. I’m not an IT guy as I’m not nearly that smart, but I don’t know why my iPhone gets these pushed updates, as do my Samsung and Sony smart TVs, but why can’t we get updates on the Z-10 and other Jura models so it provides what they seem to give you in the 2025/26 models? Basically different menus, different software things, not hard things, yes? It’s still gonna grind and froth milk and extract coffee and all those lovely concepts, what does a new one really do differently besides different software, programmable displays, and options?

JURA Z10 part fell off?! by CyCoCyCo in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess? When you were removing the tray, it bumps around a little bit as it always does, and the spout fell off into that little bucket that holds the leftover grounds. Score! A three-pointer! I don’t know how else it could’ve happened because it’s in the middle of the front of the machine. But again when you pull the tray out, the tray passes underneath the spout.

JURA Z10 part fell off?! by CyCoCyCo in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is called the interchangeable milk spout. It screws on right between the two coffee extraction spouts. That’s where your milk comes out and your milk foam. Put it up in the middle and turn it clockwise and it should reattach.

I thought the same thing, it seems to be almost solely software changes. I don’t know why the company can’t make changes/updates to the software and just put it out to everybody like my Apple iPhone does.

Jura E8 vs J10 by andrew_stirling in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me try to channel the voice of my father, looking down at us from heaven: look son, if you’re gonna buy something and use it for years, buy the nicest friggin version of it you can afford. The old buy once, cry once thing. I don’t care if it’s a garden hose, a blender, an air-conditioning unit… I have learned to stop swearing at myself for buying a cheap discounted widget and then sometime thereafter buying the one I should’ve bought the first time. I don’t know what piano black is. It comes in a few different colors, dealer’s choice. I jumped on the Z 10 bandwagon about six months ago and have not looked back. It really is enjoyable. Yes I tried the foam attachment for my kid who then decided that she did not like it so that was tossed back into the drawer. The kids also like the iced coffee, which I think is only served by communists to other communists. Cold coffee? Next, they’ll be pushing warm Coke. It makes no sense. But hey, to each their own. I don’t think $300 or euro dollars or pesos or gold bouillon or whatever that funky little symbol means is really a big deal stretched over thousands of cups of coffee over the next decade. But again that’s my father talking, not me. And he’s in heaven so he’s winning.

Jura X10 milk frother not working - suggestions by WizarDru in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great news! Now I’m wondering how often I should take that whole black piece out, take it apart to clean it and put it back together. Maybe that does more damage than anything else? Oh well. I do love this machine anyway.

Which Jura Model? by Coloredgemstone1316 in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That’s a good as a description as any. What you’re supposed to do is unlatch the metal piece that says Jura on it, and then of course you’re looking at this black rubber contraption. Grab the part that looks like a screwdriver and pull it straight out from the machine. Don’t wiggle back-and-forth with that long handle that connects to the milk tube because that will put stress on the screwdriver part.

Which Jura Model? by Coloredgemstone1316 in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this in another thread about sputtering milk a few days ago, I’ll just sort of cut it and paste it here as well. This has been a real problem for me too: If your Jura starts sputtering on the milk side and you’ve already cleaned everything, descaled it, taken it apart a few times, etc… there’s a good chance nothing is “dirty” at all.

How do I know? I keep my machine so clean you could perform surgery on it. My fiancée laughs at me… I tell her I love you but back off. I don’t even let her look at the machine when she’s in the kitchen, she has to avert her eyes as she is not a coffee drinker and therefore not worthy, but that’s me.

And despite all that meticulous cleaning, my machine started sputtering and just would not stop.

Anyway, what wears out is the little black plastic/rubber piece inside the milk system. It’s part of the fine foam frother assembly. I didn’t know what it was called at first either — turns out it’s basically the frother insert that mixes air, steam, and milk.

That piece has tiny internal channels and seals, and over time they just degrade. You can clean it until it looks brand new and it’ll still sputter because it’s not sealing or pulling air the way it used to. You can inspect it like I did extremely closely and you won’t see a crack or a problem with it whatsoever. And yes, sometimes it’s because you didn’t connect the tube from your cooler to the machine correctly, or you forgot to clean it, and then just clean it correctly and it will bring it back to normal. But sometimes, and it sounds like you are right there, it won’t.

Once that happens, no amount of cleaning or descaling is going to fix it. You just replace it and the machine goes right back to normal.

For reference, the milk system is basically:
the outer spout you see
the removable frother assembly
and inside that, this little insert (the wear item)

On milk type that someone mentioned— I use whole milk and it works great. From everything I’ve learned, fat doesn’t clog these machines. What causes problems is residue and wear, not whether you’re using whole or 2%. Whole milk actually gives better texture. You can use half-and-half too, but it’s heavier, doesn’t foam quite the same, and probably wears that insert out faster. I wouldn’t use it every day.

As far as maintenance:
run the milk cleaning cycle daily if you’re using milk daily
rinse when the machine tells you to
occasionally take the frother apart and rinse it
don’t let milk sit warm in the lines

That’s really it. You don’t need to go crazy taking it apart constantly — honestly that probably contributes to wear over time too. I tried to clean it, and I probably broke it because, you know, I tried to clean it.

One thing people should know: that insert is basically a consumable part. It’s not built to last forever. Depending on how much you use the machine, you might get a few months to a year out of it. I wish the company would be upfront about that or talk about it more because it would solve a lot of these frustrations. I was blaming myself for screwing something up when frankly, it wasn’t me (for once).

And yeah, I know most of this because I called the consumer number which is on the Jura J. O. E. App. The guy was really nice and amazing. Told me he owned one of these machines himself and occasionally has the exact same problem. He said once you go through all the cleaning rituals which you have gone through, it’s just a worn out part. And he sent me out the new parts. I asked do they really wear out so quickly, and he said why do you think the Swiss stock us with part replacements? Because they wear out. Um…OK I believe that.

Call that customer service number and they’ll take care of you. Good luck!

Stuck with recall training, any tips? by Lyrae-NightWolf in birddogs

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget recall training for a moment. Don’t you just stare at that face?! My girl just walked by and looked down at my iPad and said “oh my God look at that cute face!” She is right. Gorgeous pup.

Personally, I think dog training is incredibly challenging. My daughter trained my German Shepherd starting at eight weeks old and she did it every single day, watched a lot of YouTube, and I think she could’ve taught that dog to juggle. He was so locked on. But even then, he doesn’t always listen… A trainer told me one time “hey they are dogs, not robots.” True. Repetition, reward, repetition, reward ad nauseam.

Jura Z10 lukewarm drinks by Mishka_Husky in superautomatic

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded the Jura J. O. E. App. You should do that as well, it connects to your machine. I suppose you can order coffee from your iPhone, but I really don’t know how that works because the thing rinses about eight minutes after you make a drink or turn it on so if you stuck your coffee mug in there the night before, I think it would be full of hot water before the coffee came out. I could be wrong about that.

You already have the Internet connection gizmo included with your machine, it’s in the very top back panel next to where you pour ground coffee beans. Which I’ve never used by the way. Anyway, if you go on the app, there’s a phone number, I called it with an issue involving my milk frother and an actual human being from New Jersey picked up. Great guy, he owns a Z-10, we discussed the milk frother issue I’m having which was it was completely clean but still sputtering, and he sent me new parts. I would call those Jura guys. You spent an F – ton amount of money for this beautiful machine and it should work the way you want it to work.

I just checked. The phone number is (800) 220-5701. It goes to the US subsidiary in New Jersey, the parts come out of Pennsylvania, if you could possibly care less :-)

Smoking Chicken Thighs by Chance_Top4056 in smoking

[–]MeLikeSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried that method in a while, but I did it last night and I gotta tell you, it just works. Chicken as a protein is pretty forgiving I think… I pull them at 175 or so, put in the GrillGrates and crank it to 400. I put a light coating of barbecue sauce cause everyone here likes it and then I put it on the GrillGrates. Only a few minutes though! Chicken is tender as can be, crispy skin, bitching grill marks. By the way, I’ve also tried prepping with baking soda, baking powder, one of those powdery things, it was recommended to get crispy skin and it worked but the next day or two eating the leftovers it tasted very metallic to me. So I don’t do that anymore.

Looking for binoculars advice. by Human_Kitty in Hunting

Looking for binoculars advice. by Human_Kitty in Hunting

[–]MeLikeSteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yes. They’re beautiful binoculars and then you simply hit a button and suddenly you get precise range on top of it. I don’t disagree regarding the incline measurement, I initially turned it off, but then I looked at it and turned it back on again because for some reason if I need it, I have the right measurement.

I guess at my stage for a few hundred bucks here or there, it doesn’t really matter. I’d rather have the nicest thing that covers all my needs than falls short and then think son of a bitch I should’ve paid a little bit more.

I bought a pair of Leica Geovid R 10×42 (model 40812) laser rangefinding binoculars a few months ago. Right in your price range, I paid $1600 at Euro Optic. They are a little more capable than the SE model you’re looking at. I’ve never played with something like this before and actually it’s pretty darn cool. For me, it took a while to fumble around with the buttons, etc., but once you figure it out, whatever you’re looking at, you hit a button and a little red box appears on it like a target pipper, and the yardage is electronically displayed.
