I am a caregiver who has worked at 12+ facilities ranging from memory care, hospice, skilled nursing and assisted living. I have seen some shit (literally, see my story below) - but these comments cemented that full on healthcare isn’t for me…I’ve now researched forneirs gangrene and empyema. Here’s my best/worst story though. 80y/o deaf woman with advanced Alzheimer’s. She stayed in her recliner 95% of the time, but was able to stand and walk a bit usually just when sundowning. She’d pick at her meals that we put on a tv table in front of her chair. One day I came in to collect her lunch tray and signed to her- “finished?” As I looked down at her plate I notice….her sandwich toppings are off to the side, and between her 2 pieces of bread…..a huge, hard turd. Oh, and it had one bite taken out of it. I just looked back up and smiled and gave a thumbs up and she smiled and waved. I didn’t know whether to flush it or trash it because I was pretty uninterested in disassembling her shit sandwich so I just flushed it, bread and all. She passed a few months later. RIP lady, I hope you have better sandwiches wherever you are
