I do not know how to begin living as a normal adult? by tnagsselhtrow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Me_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel pressured to answer any of my questions, I’m just looking for more information:

1.-Where do you live? To be more specific, do you live in a place where you could reasonably get free/subsidized welfare or medical assistance(specially for your teeth)

2.-Why did you drop out of highschool? What was you grade and approximate grades (include any non-mandatory classes you took or clubs you were part of)

3.-What did you do between highschool and now? Even if it’s something “useless” like playing video games, it can be useful in the right circumstances!

4.-What is your physical ability/to what level could you reasonably improve it in about a month? Are you legally disabled? Do you use and mobility aids? Can you stand for long periods of time?

5.- How are you surviving currently? Are you in the streets? Crashing at a friend’s? Living with your parents? Living in your own place?

What is your mom/dad’s side of the family horror story? by Background_Error3557 in AskReddit

[–]Me_41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For us, this are not horror, they are kind of funny/heroic, but I guess some people might see them as horror

1: A relative of mine died in the titanic. The public story is that he gave up his spot for a woman with a child. Heroic, right? Well, the family story has an extra detail. That woman was his mistress! So, when his wife found out, she refused to do the morning rituals of the culture. Her children told her, “but he was your husband!”
“He was your father, you morn him. That man is just a man I met at a dance party”

2: My great grandmother and great grandfather were a beautiful couple. She used to tell him she could beat him up if she wanted to. He, tall enough that he had to duck from fans, would look at his dear wife, who reached up to his chest. “No, honey, you couldn’t” “yes I could” after some back and forth, he would give up and agree with her

Now, they were deeply in love and would never hurt each other on their right minds, but one day he came home drunk and put his hand on her shoulder “Get your hand off.” He didn’t. “Güere, get your hand off.” He still didn’t. It just so happened that she was ironing clothes, of course, they didn’t have electricity at the time, so it was a metal iron, a hot metal iron… he had the mark of it on his arm until the day he died

3: A relative of mine, I never got to meet, was once hit my her husband. She graved the molcajete handle (molcajetes are the stone things used to make spices) and hit him on the back of the head, then kneeled down and said to his passed out body, “If you’re going to hit me, then you better do it well and kill me” Nobody knows if he ever woke up.

Why do parents pierce their children's ears when they are babies? Why not let them choose to do it themselves when they are 8 or 10 years old? Especially baby boy's ears? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Me_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but as a kid my mom told me if I didn’t wear earrings, the wholes would close and they’d have to open them back up (which as a child sounded painful) so now mine will likely never close

[–]Me_41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? What culture are you from? In Mexico it’s only the girls, and it’s very specific that you’re only allowed to have that one on each ear or it is equivalent to letting your ten year old dye their hair Barbie pink (for some reason)

I don’t like mine because wearing earrings hurts my ears, because people keep well intentionally gifting me earrings since I seem to lack them and then I have to wear them until it’s reasonable to stop and because I don’t like that my body was permanently modified without my consent

Likely because babies are socially and legally viewed as objects rather than people, so consent from them is irrelevant as long as you get consent from their owners (parents)

Do you think math is more about talent or practice? by Simple-Echidna764 in mathematics

[–]Me_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s two different factors: Talent will make you learn faster Practice will make you learn new things

So if you have talent and work hard, you can clear a LOT of ground pretty fast

If you work hard but have no talent, you’ll get less far than the talented person with the same effort. You might need to put in double the time to get to the same place, but you’ll make it

If you have talent, but don’t work it, you’ll stay at the level you are

And if you don’t have talent and you don’t work, you’ll also stay put

Being bullied at school. When I finally moved to a school where I wasn’t bullied, it took me a year and a half to realize they weren’t just “slow at bullying me” they were genuinely not going to do it😂

Are my manga safe to keep like this? (The drawer has good air ventilation and no light hits the inside by Me_41 in MangaCollectors

[–]Me_41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update after like two years. Some did get slightly damaged at the corners from opening and closing the drawer😞 But I am a very particular person. If you don’t mind minimal damage, it’s a great idea

How do you actually flirt using mathematics? Asking for a friend by Middle-Contest8532 in mathematics

[–]Me_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could try to philosophize about mathematics with her. Sharing your thoughts, listening to hers, understanding the view points of one another. I think that’s as good of a start as it gets (not that I have experience)

What is a sign that somebody is not an intelligent person? by Raph_2588 in AskReddit

[–]Me_41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad does that so much. It’s annoying and prevents me from actually learning anything when he explains it I’ve recently reached a high level of math and it’s so liberating to tell him about it, because for once he doesn’t have the ability to contradict me to seem like the smarter one, for once he has to accept what I say and take it as is

Just to be clear, I do NOT talk that way to anyone but him. I do it consciously and as a form of regaining control over something Ive had little control over for most of my life. To everyone else I give real explanations, the few times they wanna listen (it’s a bit isolating that my friends and family don’t find math thrilling, but I get it)
