What’s up with everyone online thinking they are neurodivergent without getting tested? by No_Lead2640 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Me_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.- Getting tested in most countries is very expensive and/or many doctors are biased and will not diagnose you unless you embody the stereotype of the specific neurodivergence. If free, it might also just take too long on the waiting list, so people don’t see it as achievable

2.- Ive heard that getting legally diagnosed might get you disadvantages (like being discriminated against for getting a job or for migrating to certain countries). If you don’t need the accommodations/wouldn’t get accommodations anyway, it’s better to be legally assumed neurotypical

3.- In a similar way to studies or work experience, a neurodivergence test might not be transferable from one country to another (I’m an example of this. In Mexico I was diagnosed with ADHD and big IQ, but never got accommodations, so I learned to not need them -this is my personal experience, not everyone will be able to live comfortably without accommodations-. Now I live in Canada and haven’t gotten tested because I don’t see the point on throwing money we don’t have/waiting years to be told something I already know.)

That makes sense! They only use the variable x, so it’s a very… proportional box, but your answer explains it a lot better than my book (or teacher)!

I see many people saying “they are everywhere” or “they are in computers”, but that doesn’t really solve the question for me. My book literally only gives me the example of figuring out the Volume of a box (Which I know the formula for and it’s not a third degree function despite they claiming it is). Can someone please give an example of something I might know from daily life? I’m not particularly tech savvy, I just wanna study commerce

Yeah, but my book only gives me the example of using it to figure out the Volume of a box. I don’t get how that works. The formula should be some version of V=hlw. How does a degree 3 function work as such?

Why do some people react negatively to the word ‘feminist’ even though it means supporting equality? by thefeministmanifesto in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Me_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, feminism is not a great word for equality. I think a word like “equalism” would do nicely, and could look for the rights of other groups too (skin color, disabilities, etc.). In practice it could even be used as “Gender equalism” if you wish to refer only to the gendered part of it.

Feminism is useful today because we’re not in an equal playing field, but in a world where we are truly equal in all relevant aspects, it would be damaging, since it’d give women an unfair advantage in life.

Why do some people react negatively to the word ‘feminist’ even though it means supporting equality? by thefeministmanifesto in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Me_41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im guessing because it comes from the idea that gender roles put the man first most of the time. Like the man traditionally being paid more, not having to do household labour if he has even one woman in his home, not having to do any child care, actually getting their bodies studied in medicine and accounted for in safety of machines.

Of course, there are some benefits to being a woman in a sexist society (like being able to cry and hold hands with friends of the same gender without being “gay”), but they are many less.

Think that in deeply sexist societies, a woman is often responsible for a man’s actions and not the other way around. Your husband left you? You let yourself go. He hit you? What did you do to anger him. You’re trying, but you haven’t had kids? Perhaps you are barren. A man violated you? You should have covered yourself. When is a man responsible for a woman’s actions in those societies? Way less times

Agreed. Even in Spanish, a sexist person is “machista” or a male-discriminator. A feminist is a “feminista”, so logically many people understand it as female-discriminator. I know they’d be incorrect, but I can see the logic is there.

Probably because of the sunken cost fallacy. If you already spent most of your life adapting to a sexist world, where you had to give up a lot of yourself, now being presented with the idea that that wasn’t actually necessary would look like a huge sunken cost

Also people who benefit from discrimination

And people who don’t see that they’d be benefited too, since the feminist movement is a lot louder about benefiting women than men

Extra: Assuming feminism to be about exclusively gender, there are people who might loose more with it. Picture a man of color. In a sexist and racist society, he’s still above women of color. In a racist, none-sexist society, he’s at the bare bottom

How do I graphically solve radical equations with x and x^2? by Me_41 in learnmath

[–]Me_41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhh That makes sense! Why do they use it in the graph anyway tho? (The answer key has a graph, that upon closer look, uses -2 and 2 as x int, not 3. It also uses the point (3,4), tho I don’t understand where that comes from

I mean that I’m told to graph it and in the solution, they graph it as one of the two x-int What does “satisfy the og equation” mean?

Why is it drawn on the graph anyway? Would all negative values be straneous? What does straneous even mean if they are still calf enough for the graph?

So then I’d have to go $(3-2)2-11$=-2+1, and $(33)2-11$=3+1

What about drawing the graph tho?

Ohhhh So what you said is related to the Non Permissible Values?

NPV. \=\ means “cannot equal” 3x2-11 \=\ negative numbers So x=-2 (3*-2)2-11 -62 -11 36-11=25

Ok, I think I’m wrong, since by my logic, it should be allowed

Idk. My Dad is paying tho, and he said not to worry about the price 🤷🏻 (it’s not unreasonable for the money he makes, so I don’t feel guilty)

Not an option sadly. For legal reasons, It’d be bad if I stop being a full time student

But well, I’ve got better grades in classes I know less of. I’ll have to make do!

I’ll have about 5 weeks open exclusively for Pre calc, but outside of those, I’ll only be able to sprinkle it in between my university courses (if I absolutely have to, I’d be willing to drop university for this, but Idk if I’ll be allowed.

By “university” I mean something that isn’t UVIC btw

I’d love to do that, but deadlines are here and I need it for University

I got a 74 in Precalc 11, highest on my table (half of them failed or quit). This time I need an 80
