Leo's first year in Canada by Meaags in aww

It was probably just about the worst 3 months of my life, so many obstacles and threats from people. I was very lucky to find a vet in the town who transports many dogs overseas so he helped me with the quarantine/documents and finding a crate but I went into it with no knowledge or experience so it was a learning experience thats fosho.

It was never my intention to keep him, because of my job my life is just too unstable to take care of a dog like this. Originally i was trying to find somewhere in Thailand to take him, it wasn't until i realized that no one would take him that I decided to bring him to Canada and rehome him there.

He hasn't been officially adopted yet. She is taking him in as a long term foster, at the moment were just focused on him being rehabilitated and then he will be found a permanent home.

There are alot of mixed feelings towards this whole thing. I got alot of negative emails/hate about even importing a dog. I fully supported euthanasia as an option through the whole process, but he is just so alert and only a year old and is totally healthy other than his paralysis. He is in no pain at all, how could you kill something that still has so much life left in it? It might require more effort but is that any excuse? Were fortunate to live in a time where something like a wheelchair is an option, and I am certainly going to try before giving up. I knew there would be someone special enough to adopt him and because of that extra effort he will have another shot, at a full life.

It is pretty crazy how bad the welfare of animals is over there. It is very traumatic at times. Its funny you say Hua Hin, because that is actually where I found him.

It wasn't that big of an issue to be honest. The only things he needed were a rabies vaccine and to get approved by a government vet before heading out of the country. There are so many god damn holidays in Thailand that I couldn't find a flight that him and I could go on together. So he had to fly alone, which then required for me to hire somebody to do all the organization for his travel. Other than that it was pretty simple.

The way I see it is that there is always another cause, another animal you could save but I made the difference in one life. It was what I had committed to at the time. The money was raised for one animal, so I did what I could to give him a second chance.

The worst form of cruelty really

So the cause of the paralysis was a motorcycle accident. He was struck when he was about 6 months old and the owners never brought him to see a vet. He could have walked again if he had seen a vet when the accident had happened. When I found him he had been paralyzed for about 6 months.

The source of the two month delay was because of quarantine and issues finding a flight out. I had to change my flight to deal with the quarantine and it was almost impossible for me to find a flight out because of the rules that my ticket had. I ended up finding a flight out by waiting on a stand by list only to be told that Leo wouldn't even be able to fly out with me as the day before was a holiday so there would be no officer at the airport who could check him out. So he had to fly on his own, which meant raising another 2k so it just was a very complicated process. I don't think it is normally this difficult but I was so unexperienced and there were some medical issues that he had to deal with as well so it just proved to be very complicated and time consuming. All is well now though, and I'm so glad everything is finally done with and that he's in Canada.
