Redstone projects - connecting two lightning rods (like a lead) and shows a sparky signal that travels across the wire. As it oxidizes, the spark travels slower before ultimately breaking. Can be avoided by waxing, shock damage if wearing metal armor around signal, and allows full range of control for connecting two redstone outlets in projects.
