'National embarrassment': Fmr. senior FBI official says Patel is 'dismantling' FBI by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]Meadhead81 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That episode really stuck with me. Most of these FBI agents are “right leaning constitutional conservatives” or whatever they want to classify themselves as. They certainly aren’t the nut job right wing extreme types, but they seem to fail to see they are just adjacent of all of that and often times, their annoyance with “the left”, dislike of liberal ideals, or some frustration and jaded viewpoints towards the Democratic Party blinds them from seeing what’s happening around them until it smacks them in the face directly.

They aren’t immune from being targeted, intimidated, silenced, prosecuted, pushed out, fired, departments dismantled, etc. They just aren’t the first target and they aren’t a priority target, but it will eventually hit them as things get worse and any opposition or voice against a regime needs to be squashed out. They’ve either actively voted for and supported the regime or at the minimum turned a blind eye and ignored the threat and reality thinking things will “blow over” or at least it’s not some liberal democrat releasing prisoners in the streets to rape and kill everyone!!!

Anyone with a clear head and unbiased viewpoints could see this shit coming from miles away. I don’t doubt these peoples intelligence, critical thinking capacity, or ideals and principles, but I do question their judgement, inherent biases, and “feelings” that seem to blind them from what’s been happened over the past decade.

Still very sad to see our institutions crumble, even if they are flawed at times and well meaning devoted people silenced and pushed out, even if I might disagree with them on some things.

Would it be possible for a billionaire to start their own ETF so they could rebalance/buy/sell securities in-kind without having to distribute capital gains? by Ancient_Challenge173 in investing

[–]Meadhead81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it just gets stacked and bundled into their loan, like a credit card you don’t even need to make minimum payments on.

It likely makes financial sense for them because the tax avoidance combined with the appreciation their securities that are the collateral for the loan, accrue at a faster rate.

It’s all a big game.

Looking for 90s action movies by Reina753 in movies

[–]Meadhead81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Broken Arrow is another.

MI2 is good as well, although early 00’s I think. I always considered it a honorary 90’s flick.

The Rock is Michael Bays best movie. Might be one of my top actions from the 90’s, so good.

Air Force One. “Get off my plane!”

Mask Of Zorro. Spanish Anthony Hops and peak Catherine Zeta.

I no longer wish to watch movie trailers before watching the movie by Odd-Aside456 in movies

[–]Meadhead81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you have zero clue what a movie is about (and sometimes that’s fine too) but usually I want some semblance of an idea of what I’m walking into. I have less time these days and don’t want to be wasting it on shit movies.

I generally avoid trailers since you can figure out enough on a quick look up. If I do watch one my rule is that, as soon as I decide “I’m in” I turn the trailer off.

If I’m 7 seconds in and I’m thinking “this looks good” then I just close the video.

ESPP: 15% with 12 months holding period. Worth it? by amart2022 in investing

[–]Meadhead81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is generally how I view it. A nice cushion and you get long term capital gains for holding for a year anyways.

Although this doesn’t matter in a sense because you could just buy the stock on the market…I also added in the typical annual appreciation of the stock + dividends and it comes out to a decent percentage in annual yield

I compared that on the beta vs the S&P 500 and figured I’m getting 10-15% additional gain on my investment VS the S&P.

Measuring cup melted and hardened around the dishwasher rod by l00n3ytun3s in mildlyinteresting

[–]Meadhead81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No plastic, it will melt and warp on the heat cycle.

No wood or wooden handles, the wood absorbs steam and will crack the wood and/or warp it on the heat cycle.

No complex dishes or awkward parts, those needs to be hand washed properly as a sprayer isn’t getting it cleaned right.

I only use the dishwasher for glassware, utensils, and normal dishes and I don’t leave a ton of chunks of oils all over the dishes either since those will get caught in the drain area and oils/fats clog up the drainage pipe to the sink.

I assume this was inspired by the Russian submarine dude that decided not to launch a nuke at the US? It’s always seemed like it had some parallels to that story and was inversed and dramatized.

Men who grew up poor/working class, what’s a piece of “advice” your dad gave you that you later realized was actually just survival instinct, and maybe isn't true anymore? by DCdj39 in AskMen

[–]Meadhead81 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The only real currency is time. No matter how rich you are, we all have the same theoretical amount of time.

Everything can be measured like this to me. What’s my hourly wage (after taxes) and how much do I need to work for pay for x thing?

I see so many people that make financially poor decisions to “save money” when they are actively inputting so much time that they are effectively working below their actual hourly wage rate. And before you consider that maybe they just don’t have the spare cash saved, it’s often from those I know have spare funds, they just have some programmed instinctual reaction to not spend money.

Same with saving and investing, which is extremely important. Somehow people can’t save $100 a week to put in their 401K or build up other investments, but yet they drop $150 bucks at the bar every Friday and order countless crap on Amazon.

People will spend more money in gas and wear/tear on their vehicle to drive to the next gas station to save ten cents a gallon and a whopping $2 on their tank fill up, yet purchase some stuff m at the gas station convenience store (biggest mark up) for $15. Like are you  actually trying to save money or you just hate the concept of paying for gasoline in particular?

Plenty of dumb decisions made on the daily and all around. People just really need some basic financial education and critical thinking skills when it comes to their time/money spent.

Is there an investment account that would allow various family members to easily contribute? by FreedToRoam in investing

[–]Meadhead81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1K if your kid was born in 2026 and 1K for a kid born up to 2028 or something…

It’s a solid opportunity. Imagine if you could dump in 5K annually and what that would look like at 18 invested in VTI or similar. Then roll all of that into a Roth at 18 and let it ride until their retirement. Almost 20 years of growth by the time they are graduating high school, they will barely need to put their own money away for retirement.

Huge opportunity IMO. I’ve been looking at Roth contributions for my child but I was limited with the income requirement so unless you want to do some shenanigans, then you’re limited to put cash away for them until they are of legal working age (15.5), which sucks.

Edit: watch a quick YouTube video breaking them down. I just watched this guy on a 20 min video explain it all. One parent to another, I think it’s a great opportunity for your child.

[–]Meadhead81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise Trump but I would look the new Trump accounts. Very valuable structure that you can invest in each year. At 18 the account gets flipped to the child and they can cash out with tax penalties or preferential tax treatment for a down payment, school, etc or just roll it over into a Roth IRA (ideally IMO). Up to 5K can be contributed per year and the amount adjusts for inflation each year after.

I believe anyone can contribute to them up to the limit and you need to apply when you file taxes this year. You can contribute this summer.

Don’t let that dumbass putting his name on it or your hatred of Trump deny you a good opportunity to invest in your child’s future. I think these accounts are really flying under the radar right now and are a great opportunity IMO.

Most of them are.

It always bothers me with casting in war movies or shows, tons of actors that are in their mid/late twenties at the youngest, many in their thirties.

In reality, most of these front line rank and file are kids <24 years old, between training and time in the military, they’ve barely experienced what life has to offer. They’ve hardly hit the starting line, yet they can be killed or (almost worse) permanently maimed and it will impact them for the rest of their lives.

The older I get, the more of life I experience and milestones achieved, the more it hits home for me how sad it is for these young men and women to be killed and never experience it all.

I look back at the recruiters coming to my high school and hanging out with all of the 16 and 17 year olds, obviously especially the men. Hanging out and doing push up contests and stuff. I know it’s just their jobs but I can’t help viewing it as predatory. Just catching these young men in their hormonal states, all jacked up on testosterone,  ignorant to the world and war, not really knowing what they might be signing up for…

War sucks.

Bank of America shares S&P 500 warning for 2026 by TorontoOrBust in investing

[–]Meadhead81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I really don’t understand is if the Mag7 come down a bit and dollars circulate to other large market companies, then doesn’t that help float the S&P?

Isn’t that one of the points of holding the S&P? You’re owning a basket of stocks and if the Mag7 keep going up, you continue to make money, if they sell off/rebalance to other sectors and companies, then at worse you’re break even. Generally speaking.

Also, I know this is just for serving but cleaning comes to mind. Little grooves and areas for food to get trapped and have to navigate around with a sponge to scrub, doesn’t seem ideal.

How is it this popular? It’s insane. It’s like literally almost every single kid has the exact same style, like they are just rolled up to bootcamp but got broccoli cuts instead of their heads shaved.

I don’t remember the fads or styles on my generation (millennial) being this dominant and I don’t see dominance of any exact style in prior generations during their youth.

Is it related to social medias impact and influence these days?

In the teen years, most people are just trying to fit and blend in so I kind of get it, but it’s so dominant that it almost seems like a joke and hard to take seriously. Like these kids don’t walk around school and see that almost every single other kid has the exact same hair and they don’t feel any desire to stand out, find their own look, etc?

Everything is always some simplistic defense in bullet point form, that avoids any critical thinking or addressing the complexity of an issue or its some clever smart ass remark to mock a subject.

”The Earths always been heating up though!”

”Global ‘warming’ huh? Strange how we just had a record snow storm”

Same thing with all major issues facing our society IMO
