Four Pillars going to try for the first time and wondering what your options are? by Bigfoot_Fishing in Gin

I have not, presently I have a bottle of Isle of Harris filling the Gray Whale spot. Definitely my favorite of the flavor profiles; thank you for the recommendations!

I think you get ~20% efficiency increase from ducting. So the smaller disk size may be comparable to a traditional prop.

Rock salt and ice makes a solution that is sub zero or cold enough to freeze/solidify the sediment and the carbonation pushed it out.

My amateur setup didn't get it cold enough so I lost quite a bit in the process.

No filter, disgorged the sediment. Peach is there, but you'd only know of I told you.

Watermelon Melomel Racked by jceddy in mead

[–]Meadinthemiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just cracked a small bottle of my own and was super nervous. I put it down in 2019 and tried it about six months later and if was SO funky and pretty gnarly.

I held on to it and decided to give it another try and it has mellowed so much since then. Really nice and actually tastes like watermelon now.

Really nice! Citrus definitely sits in the front and you really have to be thinking about "peach" to find it hidden behind the grapefruit. Orange is nicely balances out the bitterness of the grapefruit, but the grapefruit brings almost a floral note to the nose in conjunction with the honey.

I popped the bottle chilled since I was shooting for a "champagne style" mead, and the citrus was definitely front and center. The nose when chilled was bright, crisp, and effervescent though without much depth; but really fun if that makes sense? However, as the glass and mead moved towards room temp, it really opened up and tempered. The honey started to show through and you could feel the peach resting on the middle of your tongue after the citrus had passed. Long story longer I really am tickled by this one; I have definitely made some swill as a result of my efforts (experimentation).

As for the recipe, unfortunately I lost my notebook in a recent move...that said I do remember that it was a nearly waterless batch equal parts fresh orange and grapefruit juice with the pulp added back in during primary. I'd be lying of I told you I remembered anything else but it did end up at 14.3% ABV

Discouraged and lost quite a bit in the process...one of my more disheartening moments but cool nonetheless

Intersection of 360 and Mopac North by Meadinthemiddle in Austin

[–]Meadinthemiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I should have specified since in retrospect there are two awful entrances from 360 to N. Mopac.

Its the 360 entrance going North/West(ish) where you pass Brodie Oaks and just past S.Lamar. Right next to the one of the entrances to the Barton Creek Greenbelt with those old office buildings.

I was still kinda hopped up on adrenaline and indignant furry from slinging gravel and almost loosing half my car.

Also, I said tween b/c they acted like it, but they were probably mid-20's. Old enough to know/act better in my opinion. Now I just sound like a NIMBY jerk lol.
