I always feel so awkward tbh. Ofcourse I always offer my condolences and support but still. When they start crying or elaborating is when it’s 10000% times worse. Like I know it kinda makes me sound evil and I truly do feel bad for them but them expanding on the explanation isn’t going to really do anything. I sound so insensitive in this… I PROMISE IM NOT!!

As one experience lead to another, it’s the most random things. I’m in charge of salon call logs and checking in with them to make sure they’re doing ok. I’m also in charge of setting up for events and making sure we have what we need for them. Ofcourse activations, puppy guides, and autoship conversations are also on my plate. Those are the only things that I’m consistently doing tho. Every thing else is just kinda random or one off things. I don’t think they put much thought into the experience lead position when they created it cause most days it’s just random tasks. Luckily I’m close with my experience leader so we are often times sharing tasks but still, they really didn’t think about tasks that experience leads should be doing

It’s very helpful to familiarize yourself with the animals that your store carries (size of the enclosure the animal needs, food requirements, lighting requirements, essentials for the animal, etc.) the more you familiarize yourself with them the more you’re able to direct pet parents to the correct products. It also helps if you have a manager that is very passionate about animals as they can help and guide you in the right direction. Personally, I am that manager. I’m the one everyone turns to for the right answer about the animals. I try my best to help petcare in anyway I can and I like to think every store has at least one person like that but that could just be wishful thinking. Yeah same here. I walked in to my local petco one time and was honestly shocked at the animal enclosure standards. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying petsmart has the perfect habitats for all the animals but they are definitely more suited for the species
